The heating air distribution fan is making a rapid clicking noise like something is touching the fan blades.

Any suggestions, other than a new fan - which is rediculous after less than 3 years from new.

On ours, the cover to the fan is easily removed. We once found a leaf had got in and was making the noise you describe. After each trip now I take the cover off and with a soft brush remove the dust and any detritus that might have found its way in.
Hope that your issue is something as simple and easily remedied.

Thank you. That is what it sounds like.

But not sure how a leaf (or anything else bigger than dust) gets through two grills.

Is yours a 6E?

No ours is the Combi 4E

Is it possible that the fan is not centred on the axle shaft so spins eccentrically?
Here’s a photo of the 6e. It looks similar to the 4e. Removing the fan cover should allow you to rotate the blade and see whether there is anything physically fouling the blade. In ours the cover just slides up.

Yes the cover in the 6E is the same - just slides up , looking like it is only gravity holding it on.

I have the cover off. and can spin the axle by hand - no noise. So it would appear that the next step is to remove the 3(?) screws hold the whole unit in place.

I’ve not needed to go so far and suggest if you do, take photos before you remove things so putting it together should be easier.
Also, if the blade spins silently, I suggest there may be no serious issue with the drive as if there were, one would expect the noise when manually turning the blade.

Are you certain the noise is from the fan then? I'd stick a screwdriver or something in to stop the fan for a second or two and see if the noise stops.

Interest comment. No, not 100% sure.

What else makes a noise like that?

UPDATE

We decided to come to France, anyway.

Yesterday morning, it was cold, so I put the heating on. Good news. It rattled for a few seconds and has been quiet since.

One of life's mysteries. But, thank you for your observations. :hugs: Currently, South of Dinan.

Glad the noise has self-cleared. Enjoy your holiday. Been a bit cool today down at Marseillan Plage but still dry and sunny. 👍
