Like many, the headlamps on my 2008 X250 have become clouded in the last couple of years due to UV damage on the plastic outer cover.
There are many ways of treating this.
A year or so ago I bought one of those kits from eBay which contain an abrasive applied via a rotating pad you drive with a drill and a UV treatment to put on afterwards.
This worked well and brought the lens/cover up to virtually new clarity.

This , however , is not the subject of my post.

Many will know this treatment to defog the lens/cover does not last forever and I noticed the surface becoming obscured again after maybe 6 to 9 months afterwards.
My MOT is today and I got a bit concerned, although I've not heard of any vehicle failing an MOT for this but in bad cases it might.

My post concerns how easily I retreated the headlamps.
1) I re-polished the surface with Autosol (it's normally a chrome polish and stain/heat mark remover). I guess almost anything containing a very fine abrasive will do the job. This was very easy and took a couple of minutes per lamp.
2) To replace the UV protection I applied Meguiars Headlight Protectant. I've had this for a year or so but never used it.

Anyway the result is very good
I await to see how long it lasts. Any secondardy treatment will not be as good as the original.
The Meguiars is quite expensive , I think I got it from Amazon , but only requires a little bit applying like polish

You can clean them so they look like new.

G3 polish apply by hand using a clean cloth rub in small circles .
then polish off with a clean cloth.

still foggy repeat again.
