Does anyone use a travel logging app to share their trips with friends and family?

I tried Polar steps but found that it did not use the location or timestamp on photo's to place them on a route.

I'm just looking at FindPengins which seems a little more user friendly and is easy to share across various media.

Cheers

I used Locatoweb.com for friends and family to follow us in real time on our last trip and it worked very well.

We use Journi Blog. Almost 4 years now and only issue is that as far as I know it only uploads photos at full resolution so it can gobble data up.

Is this for creating a route on a map for where you have been or points on a map of where you have been or exactly where you are exactly at a given time (or all 3) ?

Polarsteps for me, you add pictures and text to it as you go along. Can share your travels with family / friends. This is our 10 week trip earlier this year.

Personal preference.

Not used the MF one as mine is purely for my own and my family’s benefit. Some of our family have “followed” so they get updates each time we post and some just log onto a link we sent them at the start of the trip to see where are are and what we’re doing. The real idea is that at the end of the trip you turn the trip into a book they produce but there is no pressure to do so.

Costs nothing so why not give it a go, you can set up a practice trip around your area and delete later.

Is that Polar steps that create a "book" or do you have a clever family member ?

Edit just been answered as "Polar steps do it" by reading scotjimland post

Apologies for pestering with questions.

If I created a Polar Steps account and did what you guys have done, there is a share facility, would that be available for a copy and paste scenario onto MHF Journal (It wont work with mapping as that would have to put it manually/womanually/personally) ?

Does someone have a Motorhome related Polarsteps journey which is in the public domain and doesnt mind sharing so I can take a look ?

Why not resize the photos before uploading I do that with all the photos I upload to the forum.

PM me and I’ll send a link to one of mine. Just off out in dog walk so it’ll be later this morning.

Polar steps runs in the background on your phone and tracks your journey. When I arrive at a location I open and click on it to set my location. I take photos on my phone as normal and later upload any photos I want and do the text. Don’t know how MHF journal works but the text can be copied and pasted.

App runs on phone, take photos, write up text during day or at end, you have to choose location from a map which has to be a google location so no geo location, then post.
After day 1 title do same again with day 2 title. Creates map (see above) each pin links to relevant journal entry.
Separate independant but attached page which can be used for anything (I do costs on there eg aire fees, diesel fill up, quantity of wine consumed!)
Should you make journal public it is added (within its section) to all other journals to create mega map (or will be)
This is the continental map at present. Each pin is a link to an entry by someone so there are 19 links near to Calais

Zooming in and clicking then gives you this

And clicking that takes you here https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/gorges-de-galamus.86/

So, it's to record a route that we have taken, which quite a few apps do, but also I want to be able to take pictures (for instance while Chris is driving) and the add them to the route with comment, but I want the app to work out where to place the images and text based on the geolocation or timestamp data on the image, I don't want to have to create the points myself (which I think you have to do in Polarsteps).

I also want to be able to easily share links to the route in real time so that friends and (older) family can easily see where we are.

Hope this makes sense.

Its all different needs for different situations for different people and trying to work out the best/easiest/most convenient one to use and the benefits of each system to try to achieve what we are after.
I like the book idea of Polarsteps, but I like the Journal on here, I think Polarsteps geolocate but will wait to confirm but whether they retrospectively geolocate from the photo, I have even less of a clue.

Would "google share my location" type app allow your friends/family to see where you are and cover that aspect ?

To be honest, as I said, I'm testing the FindPenguins app at the moment and it looks like it does what I want, its just not very accurate (even in accurate mode) in its gps route plotting but I've only tested it on a 10 mile trip so far it'd probably not be noticeable on a 300-3000 mile trip.

What might be interesting is if it has some kind of export function that can be used to import into a journal...

Cheers
