Bit of a quandary. Had our C19 PCR tests yesterday and awaiting for the results before we leave for the UK. As we cannot enter France without a negative PCR test and the 72hr test result clock is ticking to get back into the UK, rather than wait in Switzerland we are considering heading home back up through Germany as far north as Aachen and waiting there till we get the result before heading straight to Calais. We are also due more snow overnight and we have to get down the mountain. We have been quoted that the PCR test is taking up to 48hrs to get returned.

We want to get a close to Calais as we can so it is the shortest distance possible to get to the ferry so as considering leaving this evening. This will most likely mean overnighting somewhere in Germany. I've never toured through German, not since backpacking 30yrs ago. As we are just transiting and just need to overnight somewhere late tonight is it ok to stay overnight on autobahn service stations? I'm reasonably certain we can enter Germany from Switzerland without a test result. Can anyone help?

The Aachen site is well run and lots of space around your pitch, laid out more a a campsite. We used it several times and fairly close to Calais. There is a place on the road near to Calais on the road side, part devoted to buses but never seen one there. Position is on Routes Des Dunes, 62215 Oye-Plage, GPS 50.0997360, 2.055760. It is fairly quiet as the tarmac strip is wide so you can be well off the roadies without getting blown by vehicles passing. Lots of space, if you get there with lots of daylight to spare you can take a walk on the wild side in the dunes across the road with part boardwalk and part on sand. If you find Camping Clairette or Camping Four Winds (Quatre Vents) on your right you have passed it, if on your left carry on looking to the right hand side on a slight bend

Plenty of Stellaplatz in Germany also you can stay in any car park overnight providing it doesn't have a cars only sign.

Stopped just south of Aachen in October before heading to Calais, a nice quiet forest car park just off the Autoban.

thank you. Have you ever stopped on the Autobahn?

There is convenient and good Aire just west of Aachen in Belgium.
Perfect for a quick sprint to Calais.

I think you have a rogue 0 in your co-ordinates, should they be 50.997360,2.055760 ?
