Looking for a "simple" trailer hitch lock. I will use it on site once we are parked up and also on the odd occasion we overnight with the trailer attached so it needs to be able to be used when the trailer is attached to the van.

Not looking for a sledge hammer to crack a nut as having looked at most hitch locks they are for Caravans that cost 30 x that our our little 2.5m trailer but i think we need some basic security on it...

Ideas and recommendations ?

PS: picked up a Milenco ball type hitch lock (ok can only be used once un-hitched) but it really is pants quality, cheap yes but honestly not worthy of their brand. So that's going back...

More than toes wet now!
I used an Alko Typ1 hitchlock on our caravan. You can even tow with it on.
Ain't cheap but you see them regularly on e-Bay \ Gumtree \ etc in UK.

You'd better check it fits your trailer first though!

Just drill right through immediately behind the hooked part that is lifted by the handle. (normally a small hole there anyway) put a bolt through with adrilled hole in end & padlock it.
In France it is possible to buy a plate that attaches before the ball with a spring loaded lockable finger that comes down on top of the trailer hitch.

Thanks Gus, will have a look for that.

You probably have a Hitch that locks onto a Tow ball so this works a treat and for less than a fiver, you simply raise the handle on your Trailer slot the ball end into it and then lock the hitch as normal, there is no way you can unlock or remove it without the key ,therefore, the Trailers can not be stolen.
