If you're thinking about the North Highlands this year, be prepared!

Living in the area we've seen an increasing number of mohos year on year as the area gets discovered, the North Coast 500 (NC500) has certainly helped in getting the north noticed.

There are few folk living in the far north, so services are few and far between. Basic things like fuel and food need a certain amount of planning. Very little available after 6pm...

Do make sure your tyres are all good and that your spare wheel and jack etc are all as they should be. The biggest single problem is punctures, the single track roads have no curbs and sharp edges to the road surface. Even a simple pull over as you squeeze past an oncoming vehicle can result in a damaged and unrepairable tyre wall.
Add to this that you could easily be more that a hundred miles away from a new tyre and be waiting a long time for a recovery agent, do take care.
Basic stuff, make sure you have recovery...

Be aware that local traffic will use all of the 60mph speed limit in going about their daily business, so please do use the nearest passing place to let traffic pass.
There's a huge amount of logging going on at the moment and the logging trucks need to have right of way, remember that many of the passing places are too short for the trucks so you must pull over to let them past!

Lastly, have fun! It's a beautiful part of the world and even with the increasing amount of tourists there are still many empty beaches to explore.
But, please please pretty please with with a cherry on the top, take your rubbish with you. Sadly, the amount of rubbish being dumped in summer is starting to get serious and does nothing to help the image of moho owners.
Keep up to date with road works too, some single tracks are being resurfaced this year and you may find some closures.
