Well what a couple of hours.
Decided to finally be that van at the side of the tour. Living the dream.
Picked our rough spot on the assent to col de spangelles.
Arrived early today and began the climb looking for somewhere near summit. Very busy and loads of Motorhome’s already in position. Vans and tents everywhere.
We found a nice spot. Fairly level and parked up. During the day today numerous I’d say at least 6 gendarmerie drove past some waving and thumbs up. No problem we thought and settled in encouraging all the amateurs attempting the climb.
Just about to eat and up pulled a gendarme. Blue light flashing he walked over.
Are you English. Yes we reply. You must pack up and leave. No Motorhome’s allowed on the climb. What! Yes sorry you must go quickly.
Where can we go now? Why didn’t you say something 5 hrs ago when you passed? What about the other Motorhome’s?
Sorry everyone has to go now. With that he moved to the next motorhome.
Really p****d off we set off in a train of really angry French motorhomes lots of arms waving in Gallic disgust
We followed the train but as you can imagine parking was impossible
We have now just found a parking place very very busy but on a climb so they won’t go past too quickly.
Christ I need a beer tonight
Let’s hope it’s worth it tomorrow :cycle::france:

You should have pretended to be a drunk Russian and unable to understand or drive on
Seriously, was any reason given, I thought it was the usual thing to park up on the route wherever you could ?
At least the French were moved on as well

No reason just move now. It’s bloody annoying but it was not just us. All motorhomes. Vans tents and cars could stay  🤷‍♂️
Ended up 40km away below station Gourette as the first place we could stop

Maybe you should have said you'd drunk a couple of bottles of decent French wine and could not drive!

Not with our luck.
