A group here wants to raise funds to install toilets, they have started with facilities at Traigh Beach , but are hoping to build more. They are also trying to get councils to do more.

A worthwhile cause, they have reached their initial target. I made a donation a couple of weeks ago.

Can they be persuaded to add outside access to the sewer for casstte emptying preferably at the back out of sight of users of the toilet approaching.

There could be difficulties if the sewer is not on mains drainage because of cassette chemicals.

Geoff

They hope to install waste disposal at Mallaig, not too far away.

I posted that on here a month ago ...got nowt but negative comments
Theres another 2 similar projects on the go in scotland

The one at Traigh beach is not on mains drainage so would not be suitable.

There are public toilets in a lay-by at Scourie. Installing a CDP there should be fairly easy and putting a small charge on would help with maintaining the toilet block.

We've made suggestions to council about getting toilets sponsored like they do with roundabouts. But I may as well bang my head against the (closed) toilet door !!

We folks with motorhomes are better off than most as we generally have a loo with us, but for tourists this can be a nightmare issue.
Councils need to look at the big picture, people won't have a day out in a beautiful area (spending money) if they've to remain cross legged all day.

The thought process of councils is the visitors will visit cafes restaurants and bars with toilet facilities. So as usual offload the problem to someone else.

the real problem is there is not alot of mains sewage runs out in the country . that means public toilets would need sewage tanks etc that would require tankers to empty them.
should folk with chemicals in their toilets tip in them it might end up being that so much chemicals will kill the small official sewage works that it ends up in.
that causes the emptying of sewage plants and good sewage being brought to the plant. but only after its cleaned out of chemicals.
it does happen here in the south west as many quiet beach public toilets are feeding septic tanks etc .
by not having public toilets yes folk will hopefully use cafe,s bars for normal toilet use and not tip chemical cassettes in the toilets in the cafes and bars .
its amazing how many places arent on main sewage systems even today in 21st century.
