I obviously know all about the cassette, blah, blah blah but can find nothing on the internet regarding the actual cupboard for it.

In the middle of the cupboard floor is a small, removable panel with a shallow space underneath. What’s the purpose for it?
The entire floor looks to be screwed down by two screws, one either side. But undoing them does not seem to allow the floor panel to be removed. (I wanted to do as thorough a clean as possible).

Can anyone point me in the direction of a manual or something that explains about the above, any maintenance tips and a better understanding of the ‘cupboard’?

Thank you Funsters 👍

The panel is for a carbon filter and also should have a recess for a fan so it would suggest that your system is suitable for a sog to be fitted.
We just clean our cassette box out with disposable wipes and a spray of disinfectant.
Thevproblem with unscrewing holding down screws is that over time theyvwill become loose and things start to rattle or move about.

Thanks for the info. You are correct, it is a square space with a small, square recess in one corner. The overall square panel on it has a round hole in it that aligns with a similar sized ‘plug’ in the bottom of the cassette.

I looked at SOG systems and now understand ‘the cupboard’ a lot more 👍

There should be a rubber washer over the panel as well. This links up to the tube under the cassette. It's very easy to wire in a small computer fan with a reed switch to the cassette opening gear. The only issue is drilling a 2" hole through the fan space through the van floor and inserting a tube to allow the sog to work effectively.( I happened to have a right angled drill attachment so cutting the hole wasn't an issue . It's drilling a hole in the van that's the difficulty.) (y)

No rubber washer but I guess that comes with a sog/fan kit?

I looked on the bottom of the cassette and saw that there is a corresponding entrance hole with a ‘bung’ in it.

Not sure this recess is anything to do with SOG as that vents from the emptying pipe, or the top of the cassette depending upon the actual type of toilet you have installed.

There is a Thetford cassette ventilation and filter kit you can add, see

Agree the recess is for the Thetford set up , had one in my caravan not very good , tiny fan and sliver of carbon filter , fitted proper SOG unit that vents through the emptying cap on the cassette with large carbon filter and decent fan . Have fitted one on every van I have had , wouldn’t be without one now.

The Thetford way is to remove toilet and drill a huge hole, I did mine with a piece of 38mm tube with a slight flair

Got the fan and filter in mine, and no smells inside, so I’m happy with it.
