Hi everyone,

Off to Heidelberg via the tunnel on Saturday to take our daughter to uni there - a year there is part of her law with German degree course.

Any tips for the town or immediate area? Restaurants/attractions? Have looked at guides etc.

No touring unfortunately- just taking her stuff & staying put at https://campingplatz-am-neckar.de

Don't normally get away this time of year & yes the weather looks poor but no choice-why didn't she pick Spanish....!

A bit of a scramble to obtain an ACSI card as this took €130 off the campsite bill!!

Thanks

Rob

Castle and old town are nice
Decent cycling paths by the river and some other old towns upstream
Your not far from Spyers which has a great Tec museum
Doable by train I think if you dont want to drive

I certainly second the Tec Musem at Speyer and there is a Hotel with camping platz within a short walk, sorry can't remember the name but easily found

Drove through ... parking looked a nightmare so parked upstream ...

We stopped off at the other Tech museum at Sinsheim.
The one with the two Concordes on the roof. Was very interesting looking at both concordes as the Russian one was a bit rough. The French version looked much better designed and built.

Ladenburg think there is only one site, maybe 10 miles away from Heidelberg, we love it been to the site 3 times.

Thanks Tinker, will put Ladenburg on the list -looks good!

Currently on an aire 30 mins West of Reims enjoying the rain!

We stayed there and took the train into Heidelberg. Cycled across the bridge to the station. Great day out and Heidelberg was a great city to visit.

Thought I'd close the thread with an update on our stay in Heidelberg!

Unfortunately rained a lot but didn't matter as aim was to get our daughter settled.

Campsite in Neckargemunde well situated being a 20 min bus ride from Heidelberg & with the facilities of a village-supermarkets bars etc.

Saw the Concorde & Russian copy as suggested as well as visiting Ladenburg which was very quaint & would go back when the sun is shining!

Saw all the sights in Heidelberg & highly recommended for a few days

We stayed on site at Staufen (Belchenblick) and when booking were given free transport passes , bus and train for the Black Forest area and the train got us to Heidelberg free, a beautiful scenic route.

Stayed there in August.
Location is great although being next to the road, you do hear some traffic noise but it’s not a big deal.
The site owner is a friendly chap and we had a good laugh and a joke regarding Brexit.
There’s a bus stop right outside the entrance which takes you to the centre and the fare was reasonable.
We had to park on the grass verge at the bottom of the slope as there’d been heavy rain earlier and they take that into account when advising you on where you can pitch. Although we’re 5200kgs (wife is 5000 of that :ROFLMAO:

One tip for you, there’s a water hose located at the bottom of the slope on entrance - make sure you clean the end of the hose and let the water run for a while before putting it into your filler.
When I came to use it, the end was left draped in a container which probably caught any leaks/run off and when I looked in it there were stuff moving and wriggling in it (looked like miniature tadpoles but not tadpoles) and unfortunately I couldn’t disconnect it to connect my own hose.
Anyway, we survived using it so I’m sure you’ll be fine.

The town itself has loads of shops. And I mean loads!

Golly, how long was the train ride up to Heidelberg? I like the sound of free tourist passes :)
