Timing belt

I just hate paying anyone to do something that I can do myself & am sure has been A) done & B) done correctly

No, you misunderstood. Servicing to schedule and having breakdown cover in place gives you complete peace of mind.

Ian

Oh sorry Ian, Yes that’s the plan, service as the schedule ( or better)and breakdown cover = bliss. Even the best mechanics have breakdown cover. :D

Oh I really wish I was interested in knowing the difference between knocks and engine rattles and what they might mean. But on hearing them I'd rather just take it to someone who does it for a living. :D
Heard a metallic sound driving down road wife said something in back moved anyway pulled over to have a quick the timing belt tensioner pulley was coming off garage that had done work hadn't tightened it properly if i had listened to wife would of cost replacement engine most likely - Got recovered home by AA and garage done job again so happy ending apart from a bit of inconvenience

I had a belt go in my car a few years back and it wrote the car off! My Boxer has done 21,250 miles, I've now had it a year, the belt has never been changed and the MH is a 55 plate. I was told they should be replaced every 10 years, so got mine done with the MOT just in case, cost £550 but it now goes like a dream! :dance2:

Bloody belts are a nightmare all engines should have chains
Even chains fail, Audi/vw/Skoda/seat tfsi engines are known for it, some minis suffer chain issues, BMW 1 series diesels suffer and that stupid design has the chain at the rear of the engine so it's an engine out job to replace. Once upon a time chains were more reliable but not so much anymore.

D.

The Corsas and Astras had chains, but no problem as when they rattled it wasn't long before the head gasket was due to go anyway, then head off and new chain on re-build :Eeek:.
