Thule 4900 Awning (1 Viewer)

Hi all.
I have a Thule 4900 awning on my 2016 Auto Trader Apache 634 but with no instructions. I have got the hang of it today for the first time, I just need to know about the arms that come out from the van. When all extended should they lock straight or stay crooked at the joint as in photo. Not wanting to break anything......

thats fine, so long as the canopy is taught when fully extended

I usually leave them a little bent. Do not extend more than about 1.5mtr without the legs on the ground. Peg down well and wind in if the wind gets a bit brisk.

Ours don't go fully straight on our Frontier.
Have you got a centre rafter? If so, it wouldn't compress enough to fit if you don't have the awning fully extended.
As David and Sally says make sure you've got it well pegged down. I also use tie down straps and made up plates with a slot that fit over the "T" piece at the bottom of the legs to enable quick release of the legs if the wind does get up quickly.

Wind it fully out then back about half a turn until the canvas goes tight, yes the arms should be bent.

You should also have two angle braces that clip out from inside the front rail of the awning back onto the arms to act as a brace. The main arms do not lock straight and should be as your picture with the fabric wound back until it is taught.

Interesting. I saw similar on line but I don't seem to have these angle stays. It maybe that my awning is only 4m. Weird!
