If I could drive it and I had a touch more brass would love it.

Right engine, wrong front for me. I bet it goes well.

I find the Alcoven front compromises the lounge space too much

I would prefer the Alkoven to A class, been in a few, the front totally closes off when parked creating a big lounge area so no silver screens required, no double glazed side windows to mess about with. Windscreen cheaper and easier to source.

Too big to expensive impractical.
It’s all about what suits you, will not suit someone else
Know a couple who drive a big A class Concorde van and spend 6 months in the UK then have a huge RV in the states and spend 6 months in that, they looked in a 7 metre PVC, the verdict was “ Too small, too poky, no storage, no thanks”
So everyone is different,

Depends what you like really

Part of the reason I own a motorhome is because I want to get in close to cities and also move about frequently. That seems pretty awkward. An 7.5m a-class looks to be similarly equipped but without much less space inside, and much more practical. I guess it'd be good if you did motorsports or similar. But it wouldn't work for me.

All good points Paul, I understand where Jon is coming from with the view from the big screen in an A class as well but a lot of the time you are living outside and then when you go indoors it's evening and time to shut the blinds so the lounge is OK.

Indeed - each to their own. but this is the aspect that doesnt work for me, I find it so inward looking, dont get why they need to close that cab off quite so much and I agree with Guigsy about how much space is lost.

Your point about sitting outside in a social setting is a good one but so often places are surrounded by hedges or walls so that you get a much better view from inside because you re raised up and a more comfortable seat etc.

I get the waste of space bit up front, all the Alkoven do it though so I wonder if the portioning behind the seats is for structural integrity  whatever it's a fair bit of truck for the money, over 7500kg obviously but still not a bad size really and if you want too get into towns you just get the the scooter or bikes out of the garage and away you go.

I doubt the price of a replacement windscreen would bother you if you'd spent that sort of money buying the equivalent A-class - and the Land-Rover and trailer behind it.
The restrictions on where you could overnight and what roads you could get down would put me off though - and I do pull a car trailer behind a smaller A-class but have unlimited screen cover

I get annoyed buying fuel for a 25mpg van. At 10mpg I would be slitting my wrists!
where are you getting 10mpg from? even Artics do that these days. I would expect 15 ish out of that.

regardless, got to do a lot of miles to make a significant difference.

There isn't much that would persuade me to do my C test BUT
Beautiful workmanship look at it for 6 years old, if we could afford it I would do my test too for that, I’ve looked in depth at those and dreamt whilst at the factory.

This perfect was over half a million and wasn’t even new, the quality was outstanding in every way.

Kid in a sweet shop she had to drag me away, of course just as we were walking out another perfect pulled up outside, the driver got out, a huge door opened on the side and low and behold a sports car was revealed. Of course I had to go over and that was another hour gone 😄before she got me out of the premises.
I was so smitten I forgot all about photos.

Looks good but not for me, even if I could afford one and had the licence to drive it.

I am definitely on jongood's side as far as view forward is concerned; ours through our Arto (2003) screen is excellent, driving included, because we can see the top of the Alps/Pyrenees.

Also from the saloon we have an almost 180 degree view, which also gives a lot of light in the interior.

Horses for courses certainly is appropriate in discussing this horsebox and Hickstead. [Off topic - one of my teachers used to own the house and land before he sold it to make the Hickstead show jumping ground.]

[EDIT: I should have added that from jongood's pic of an alkoven interior, it is obvious that from the saloon the windscreen is lower, and would not give much of a view if if the partition were not there.]

We watched a film last week Geoff there was a great shoot out in a saloon, is yours similar to this one?

I’m not sure there will be any difference in view when driving, when parked up there are still windows at the sides.

Hobgoblin session IPA indeed. Thought you would be a German lager fan!
Gift from a fellow camper. It was a nice change after 3 Months away. Like a bit of pale ale now and again.
