Full time from 2015 - 2023 just short trips now for a while.
Hi all,
I have a coolant leak on my thermostat hose, (see photo) it only leaks when engine is cold and not always, also hard to prove on pressure test, On a run it hold well, no leak. This happened 2 yes ago on the same point, and a new hose clip solved the problem, however, I was told they didn't fit a new hose as the housing may have been corroded ? And didn't want to risk it. Is this a valid concern, or is it just that its really awkward to access.

By the corrosion on it I would say it's aluminum. Probably corroded under the hose so the hose is not seating properly.

It could be trouble but if you want to have a go disconnect the hose and give the fitting a good clean with a wire brush. Then coat the housing it fits onto with Heldite before fitting the new hose and new clip.

Heldite can be used on steam, oil, petrol and coolant/water systems. As an ex marine engineer we used to use it all the time on “problem” joints. Just give it an hour to set before filling and dont forget some antifreeze.

Heldite sets like varnish and is easily removed by wire brushing if the joint needs renewing at all.

Thanks for that I tend to agree it's aluminium. It's very tight in there so have booked it in for Wednesday and hope they don't have any complications.🤔👍
