I have just been up there to the Whitfield site and there is a height barrier , a new height barrier, that is marked up at 2.99 metres high. So I didn’t go in but went home. I phoned the duty manager about it and was told that it is marked at that height but is Actually 3.7 high. They realised a LOT of motorhome filled up there with food and supplies before shipping so purposely made it much higher than it says on the sign. They have been having loads of trucks going in and leaving undesirable mess behind so had to stop them. Lidl qabit further did the same as they were packed out with foreign truck every night. Beware I am only passing this and not responsible for it actually being lowered later.

I was concerned the first time I went to Lidl and found the barrier closed. I crept forward, with two impatient car drivers passing me. I could see through the Heki that I had sufficient headroom , even above the aerial, so continued in. I didn't worry quite as much as I drove out. If the Tesco barrier is at least as high then there should be no problems.

Thanks for posting

Old thread alert.......

Tesco Extra Dover, on the A2 at Whitfield, does anyone know if the barrier is still there and at a real height of 3.7-ish? My van is 3.1m. I like to use a site near there prior to going to the Eurotunnel, it's a handy place for a last-minute stock up.

For Eurotunnel we have been using this one for years (Tesco Extra so 24 hr other than Sunday and BH's)...

Hythe Rd, Willesborough, Ashford TN24 0YE

Fuel station 24hr is before the barrier, and when we want to park up we clear the barrier easily at 2.9m

If you didn't want to risk it of an evening there's plenty of space for one van to park, considerately, while doing a "pit stop shop".

Thanks, but it is specifically the Whitfield one I'm after - as we stay on a CL just down the road from there. Slightly better suited to the ferry than the tunnel I admit, but it's a great little site for an early getaway none the less.
