Just come back from Tenby -in town they have fitted new coin operated locks to the toilet doors-40p to open them, caught one lady squatting at the corner of one (probably had no change). Also to park my van (6 mtr )-£2 for one hour then £6 for up to 3 hr and no spaces long enough for c/vans. Have e-mailed council asking if they don't want visitors -waiting for reply.

My Mum lives in Pembrokeshire. Apparently all the locals know how to open the toilet doors without paying the 40p(y)

The toilets in hi. Kley were really good, won loads of awards and were spotless, a member of staff was there to keep up standards.
Council brought in a 20p. Charge.
Numbers fell.
Stasf got rid of.
20p charge gone.
Numbers up.
Vandals damage now for the 3rd time. Estimated cost to repair £7k plus

Unfortunately, I think that it sounds like the local tourist board would rather you didn’t bother going, just send the cash instead

In Kendal they simply closed the lot. The town has NO public toilets. I'd rather have seen them charge whatever it takes to keep them open.

Are these charges Ageist? As I get older I find I need to wee much more frequently, perhaps these charges are a form of discrimination against people with medical needs. The NHS says with age people should drink at least 1.6 litres a day (non-alchoholic) to avoid urinary infections, it has to go somewhere.

In Bridlington it’s 20 p the number of people who climb over the turnstile, including women is astonishing :):):)

Well what happened to attended toilets, they were always immaculate and the attendants a
Ways took pride in their toilets,
I for one do not mind paying for the use of clean loos.

Possibly the other reason they have a charge/lock fitted is to keep out dossers and smack rats from sleeping in there ?

You’ll probably be waiting a while.
Between now and the end of September the number of tourists spending lots of £ will vastly outnumber the locals so the town council won’t care if one person complains because they’re inconvenienced (no pun intended).
The car park you describe is probably the one at the green, by the mini roundabouts. There’s another one on the Norton called North beach car park which is where coaches park, so there will be larger spaces there. I don’t know how much it costs though, sorry.
There are two dedicated camper spaces in the car park by the Regency hall in Saundersfoot, I don’t know how much they charge.

I've been known to hurdle the turnstiles whilst out running. I always carry a couple of 20ps now just in case. Many of the loos locally have gone one better and accept contactless!!

The job isn't what it used to be, the attendant at our local toilets applied to take his two weeks annual leave and was disappointed to be told he should "take them at his own convenience" :imoutahere:

The added bonus though, if you are English and have had a holiday in Tenby you immediately qualify to play rugby for Wales (y)

Anyone hear of a Radar key? These can be purchased independently online- for people who have IBS. However, I have heard of some people requesting them and getting them- no questions asked. It operates the disabled toilet I believe. :lipssealed:

Not sure if this is the case in Kendal but a few places up north where the public toilet has been closed they’ve designated a pub or cafe, no need to buy anything just use toilet as the council pay them for the service. The council say they save money and others make a little

Contactless loos must be more hygenic.

I cant remember the last time I peed for free in Europe.. charge at all services, with a voucher to spend at the till as a ticket.. even the Port a Loo's at our races have an attendant and a plate... it aint called spending a penny for Nowt.

Same in Kendal but no payment. The problem is that many are too embarrassed to use them.

A lot of people were putting a "wedge" to stop the toilet door closing on exit-ready for the next "free pee ".
