Hi all
I recently installed a Teltonika RUT 590 & Solwise Puck and is running with a 3 Sim.
It consistently performs worse than my iphone fir download / upload speeds. Iphone on Vodafone.

Do you also have a 3sim in your phone?

I had a puck antenna with our old WiFi and never felt it was very good so invested in a motorhome WiFi kit
It’s been absolutely great and a great replacement and option to our Oyster V sat system that broke down👍😊
I believe you can just purchase the antenna if you want.🤔

Iphone is on Vodafone. Cant believe that 3 is that poor all over the country compared to Vodafone.

I've changed from Smarty which runs on 3 to Giffgaff which runs on O2. I found there is a huge difference. Maybe try your Vodafone sim in your router and check the difference.

The Puck aerial only works well on certain "frequencies" (probably not the correct terminology).
Generally, doesn't improve signal in remote areas.
We sometimes get better reception with our Huawei e5577s without the Puck connected.
A number of Funsters, including Lenny HB , DBK , etc, swear by Poynting MIMO antenna to give excellent reception.

Thanks Though I wouldnt call Lincoln, Littlehampton, Huntingdon, Cirencester, Basingstoke all remote areas.

Out of the three, the Puck and the 3 sim are the problems. I ditched 3 several years ago and stick with EE.
Aerial wise, Poynting or Panorama MIMO. Our Teltonika RUT950 works brilliant with our Panorama MIMO.

I have said this before - but you may find that the RUT950 does not always work properly as it does not support Band 32 (1400 MHz). That is used by Three and Vodafone in some areas ... I think that is correct, and just checked it out quickly on line. I have one and that was my conclusion!

Cheers

Regarding Band 32;

B32 is a downlink only band, for use in Carrier Aggregation systems where the modem can connect to two (or more) different LTE bands at once for faster speeds. Any CAT 4 router/modem such as the RUT950 is not capable of Carrier Aggregation, and hence will not be able to make use of B32. However, it can still connect to the other standard LTE bands and get adequate speeds with them (perhaps 10-20mbps on average).

If you have a CAT6 or higher modem, such as the RUTX11 that we now use for our Roam X, and use a network that uses B32 (3 / Vodafone in the UK or an MVNO that uses their networks), then you may see B32 in use in conjunction with another LTE band when carrier aggregation is being used.

In my seemingly never ending testing of different routers and network operators, I have often found 3 to be very slow when using Band 20. So I tend to disable this band and force the use of B1, B3, B7 and B8 instead.

I was very surprised to see 5G on my iPhone (3 sim) in Tain in Scotland a couple of days ago. I have held off getting a 5G router as I thought it would only work in big urban areas/city’s and not rural spots I go. Looks like I am wrong yet again 😁🤪

Don't despare, I am in Stratford on Avon at the moment and have just finished installing a Poyntin 5g ready antenna and a rut 955.
First of all you need to compare like for like and if you have relatively new I phone from all I have read it uses a form of cat6 signal so in order to compare like for like you need to invest in something like an rut x11 which uses cat6 technology.

I have just completed some tests to hive you some sort of comparison using my set up and old 5 year old android phone.

Rut 955 using Smarty (3)
13.6mbps download 6.7mbps up
2 mins later I tested it again and got
13.2 down 4.7 up

Oneplus2 Android using Smarty
14 Mbps download 5.65 Mbps up
2 mins later
11.1down 1.2up

I then used the second card I have in the rut955 which is a plusnet ( EE)

18.5 Mbps download and 18 .7 up
2min later
29.4 down 18.0 up

I don't have an EE card for the phone and the card in the rut is difficult to remove because of the fittment of the router but I think it will give you some indication of the possibilities.(y)

Have another issue now. The router can see the Sim and there is a strong reception. However it tells me the “Data connection” is disconnected. Have tried a reset but still not working.
Anyone else had this issue?
Tried viewing the manual on my iphone, but cant see anyting obvious.

This may or not be of some help. I had a similar issue with my RUT240 where the SIM was logged onto the network but the internet connection was showing no data connection.

My SIM was a Vodafone unlimited data sim.

I tried the reset instructions but this didn't work and after a bit of internet trawling I found that others having the same problem had carried out a factory reset and loaded an earlier version of the router software to overcome the issue.

I did the same and as if by magic everything connected and internet data was available. Not had a problem since.

Maybe worth trawling the internet to see if this solution applies to your router

Thanks
Will wait until i get home and try to sort on my PC.

Have swapped the 3 sim in the Teltonika for the Vodafone one out of my phone. I now have a working MiFi, so it seems to be an issue with the 3 network or the 3 sim. When i put the 3 sim in my phone i seem to have good reception but no 3g or 4g.

I seem to recall there are two APN's one of which doesn't work in all cases. I can't remember the details sorry, but may give you something to chase up.

The two APN's are "three.co.uk" and "3internet".

On mine its three.co.uk & three hotspot.
Tried both & neither work. We are moving location tomorrow maybe that may sort it.

I have a rut955 and both a 3 and Vodafone sim. Vodafone goes good speeds but three I get low 1 or 2 mb download and strangely 8-10 upstream.
I think the three network is to blame and probably going to swap for an o2 or ee sim

From the testing I have done so far which is very limited I have consistently got lower dB readings with the ee sim giving me faster speeds than the 3 sim however the 3 sim has given my adequate speeds for our use ie using one HD device ( tv ) and browsing the internet on our phones 2 of.
Using a WiFi scanning app I can see that there are a bigger percentage of 3 sim users around me (Stratford Show) than any of the other major internet providers possibly because of the attractive deals 3 in it's many different guises provideso possibly limiting the bandwidth.
I did do some testing at home before I set of though and found that my 3 unlimited home WiFi sim was consistently giving me roughly double the download speeds as that of the m/h parked outside the bungalow.
So the Jury's out at the moment because it could be the Pointing antenna that is not all it's cracked up to be or indeed the Rut 955 so without further testing a fair assessment is not possible.
By the way 3internet is the APN you need to use if it's available but in my case so far the Rut 955 has automatically found 3internet.
Hope this helps.

There is some discussion that the 3internet APN may be slower than the other one. But the 3internet APN may not use cgNAT.

I wish I could understand it all to be honest I am very much "Monkey does as monkey see's" but fortunately some of the information manages to stick for a week or two then I forget again.

To be honest I don't know that much about it either. Just half remembered stuff from my problems in the past along with some judicious googling to refresh my memory for the last post..

OK, so the problem was the 3 sim card. which I have now replaced and also added an EE as a second sim as backup. Anyone know if the RUT590 automatically switch from Sim1 to |Sim2 if the signal is weak or drops out?
I had a look in the settings, but am not sure if I need to put something in the Signal Strength dBM box as per attachment.
Thanks H

Answer should be as per the Wiki Sim Switching RUT950

Hi Just purchased a RUT 240 and did the set up on my home pc and while the LAN cable is connected to my home router my phone connects and WIfi works via RUT 240 but as soon as I remove LAN cable WiFi is lost,
am I missing something obvious ?
I am not very bright at these sort of things !

It varies slightly with different fw’s, but in the WAN section you need to move WIFI to the top of the priority list….

Should look something like this 🤞🏻

I guess you did set up a Wireless Client ? Press scan Scan button to scan for your home routers WiFi and attempt to connect to a new wireless access point.

ok did that and it is working so thanks very much for your help but alas the speed test that was showing about 20 mpbs is now .95 , have turned the power off and tried again but still the same.

See the edited post above re-setting the WiFi client.

Depending on your home routers IP subnet you may have IP issues…..if so change the IP of the RUT to something like 192.168.2.1 (You’ll be kicked out and will need to log back in if you do it over WiFi)
