Hi.

Has anyone successfully managed to get there Sept 19 to March 20 >3500KG Motorhome reclassified as a Private Heavy Goods (PHG)

During the period from Sept 19 to budget in March 20 motorhomes were classed as cars and VED was based on CO2 emissions. This resulted in high VED rates where a PHG is much lower.

Have SORN'd ours as its going nowhere and had circa £400 rebate, which made me think was it possible to apply for a reclassification. Given the current issues the DVLA have understandably left things to their AI BOT, which isn't very helpful on this subject.

Any help, knowledge or advice would be greatly appreciated.

3500kg is not phgv. If It’s over 3500kg then it it’s classed as phgv.

Are you talking about a brand new mh first registered in Sept 2019?

yes, in fact they registered our new one the day before the budget so was taxed on CO2 emissions, no weights were stated on the V5.

ie, revenue weight is blank.

MAM is 4400kg as built Weight plate.

I think you are stuck with it, no amnesty for those registered before the budget. Unfortunately it will probably affect resale value if you plan to get rid of it in under 5 years.

Sorry I don’t have an answer for you with regards your sept 19 registered van. I had my 2013 van uprated in October from 3500 to 3700 and the ved was lowered to PHGV. This was why I asked if your van was new.

Thanks.

Just fired email (may or not get an answer) to the treasury asking if I can apply for reclassification. Timing is not the best given current necessary focus elsewhere. However was a bit mollified when checking the tax class to find it's only £300 more than PHG (sorry "only" is in the fortunately mistaken belief it was circa £1800)

As said don't ask don't get, email is fairly cheap.

Will advise outcomes as there may be a few looking for the same lifeboat.
