Hi all
Based on peoples experience what is needed to take our hetty with us to toure Island?
She is chipped insured and up to date with her jabs. What else is needed please?

If you enter and leave via Northern Ireland you currently don’t need anything. Via R.O.I. dog will need a passport or AHC and the dog will required to be wormed 1-5 days before travel.

Oh it'll only be a "bit of mist". 😄😄☂️

I was asking about traveling with pet not a weather forcast:unsure::unsure:

July, Norn Iron, (Northern Ireland) loads of bonfire, bangs and marching! Go via Scotland to Belfast and you need nothing at all for the dog and return via Northern Ireland to Scotland and you will be fine, Go via the South(Wales,Holyhead to Dublin or Rosslaire Pembroke) and you will need AHC and if you get a Pet passport you cannot return for at least 5 days and the dog will need worming, You just drive over the border North to South no checks no worries and the Antrim Coast road is stunning

Remove spout cap
Depress air vent button and tip😤
What has this got to do with pets to Ireland?

We did 3 weeks in Ireland in May. Cairnryan to Belfast and back. No ahc, no jabs, and no problems. Travelled throughout NI and Eire without any issues whatsoever.

We were even able to take our dog up on deck with us, as long as she was in a collapsible crate, but I believe Stenaline have stopped that now, probably due to people not keeping their dogs in the crate or yappy dogs causing a nuisance. That's a real shame cause it stopped any concerns over the dog being OK in the van if it was rough seas.

Also, we got a discount on Stena through the CMC members offers. We don't use their sites, its just for breakdown cover but last year it paid for itself with discounts we used on different things.

We got a pet passport from my families vet in Eire so we're good to go now and have been to France and back since with her new passport without any issue.

Just be aware, a lot of the beach car parks that you can use put the height barriers back in place for the summer months to stop some motorhomers setting us camp. Shame, but it only takes a few!

Yep, just to confirm we've been three times now via N.I. with no problems. But take the opportunity to get a EU Pet Passport if you've any plans to visit the EU in future. You'd also be advised to go to a west coast vet as we've heard east coast are not so amenable to issuing EU Pet Passports to non-Irish. Just remember though that a UK vet won't be able to make any entries in it, so we're keeping the UK PP up-to-date too.

We were in Ireland in July/August, went from Cairnryan to Larne and back again, no problem at all, they did comment on the dogs but only because they want to say hi to them!

We got ours from an East Coast vet without any issues

We came across from Scotland to Ireland on jan 27th, our vets, the stenna line website and the gov. Website informed us we needed AHC at great expense for our 2 jack russels. No one checked the dogs at cairnryan when we left, we will see what happens next week for the return leg.

Never depress that bloody button without making sure you are already pouring.

If you went from Scotland to NI you wasted your money as an AHC simply isn't required.

If you were worried about heading over to Eire once you got to NI without an AHC, then the expense of an AHC might have helped settle your nerves, but it depends on your personal preference?

We never bothered and saved ourselves the expense and hassle of an AHC and we were flitting between NI & Eire on and off for 3 weeks with no bother.

We did Cairnryan to Larne (NI) and back again in July/August with no paperwork needed, no jabs, nothing. If, however, we'd gone into the Republic of Ireland direct (ie not via NI) then an AHC would have been required. There was no check at all when we went into the Republic from NI by land.

If you are travelling back from the RoI you will need the AHC, otherwise I'm afraid you've wasted your money, sorry.

Why's that then? :giggle:
Try it, best on a nice warm day when it's full. Be ready to go out for the day and a nice lunch. Oh and make sure the emptying point is one of the high ones.

No pressure then ... or maybe too much!
