Hi Want to protect my rubber door and window seals from perishing and sticking in cold weather.

Just glanced at a few other discussions and some seem to be anti silicone spray which is just what I was planning to use!

So thoughts and advice of how to care for the seals on my 2003 Boxer Autosleeper please.

(Affordable ones would be great)

Thanks in advance - Rob

We use Nextzett version with sponge applicator from here https://www.micksgarage.com/g/dash-rubber-and-plastics/products/4d212517984/gummi-pflege-stift-100ml £8.69 delivered & use on all the seals on motorhome & car as it goes a long way, no mess & works well.

This is where it got interesting ... I did dare to wander into a VW site and this is where the doubts set in. The insults thrown at Vaseline, silicone and those who don’t use the one prescribed VW solution was interesting. Perhaps not having a VW makes life easier?

Wurth did get some positive votes but obviously more expensive than Vaseline.

So conclusion so far is that most things work ? so stop worrying and do something!

PS Great to see no negative responses on here about peoples recommendations. ?. The anger at peoples choices on some of those other forums made me weep.

Vaseline is not meant to be good for pure rubber but understand that most seals are a mix of materials & lots use it without problems as mentioned above. Same applies to the toilet "rubber" seals where some also use Vaseline, olive oil or silicone spray. Everyone has their favourites :)

Autoglym vinyl and rubber care applied with a sponge no mess no waste simples!!
One application lasts the season.
Like that idea as Autoglym make some excellent products & get a lot more of it for our money so may try that when we need some :xThumb:

Vaseline £2.00.....Autoglym £9.95 Maths does it for me at that price

Personal choice

Kev

Autoglym now on Amazon prime for £7.38 so worth shopping around. I have had my present bottle about 3 or 4 years still plenty to go at.
As you say Kev personal choice ?

i use the black shoe sponge thing, is it Kiwi? Can't remember, but it does a good job. Silicone impregnated, easy to wipe on, and lasts.

Just use car body polish. Autoglym nowdays, just because that's what I use to polish the bodywork, but has always been whatever I had laying around - Simoniz, Halfords special, etc. They all stop seals freezing to door panels etc without leaving a greasy residue that you might get on your clothes.

Any seals in distress should be reported to the seal sanctuary !!!
I should think covering them in talc or vaseline will not aid their well being

Oh...... sorry... I should have read it properly !! LOL !!

I have used glycerine for years you can buy it in most supermarkets in the baking section ,

Yes and us, our previous 2006 Hymer was our first van and it specifically said in the manual to use it so have done so ever since on rubber seals.

Last bottle was 99p in Boots.
