hi, can anyone confirm for me that i would be unable to take our staffy to france with us because she is a cat 1/2 dog, and therefore regarded as dangerous.even though she is as soft as the preverbial!!.she is not kc registered, which i think may also be a problem.our son has had her in the past and we really dont want to put her in kennels.

thanks alan.

takeing staffy to france

Hi
you can take your dog/ cat etc anywhere provideing you have a pet passport also you need dog/cat chipped best bet go see a Vet he will advise what you require .
have fun in frogland.

Yupp you can take your hound anywhere but be careful what sites your planning to stay on.

Ask in advance.

Even a German Shepherd can be on the banned list.

My hounds have been all over the show:thumb:

Hello,

yep you can take your pets to europe with you in your motorhome, as we've have done that lots of times :)

Toffee our sprollie dog has been all over europe, even up to 8000ft! in the swiss alps.. lol (we drove up the nuffnum? pass in 2006)

she had great fun. :D

before you go you need to get a rabies jab & some front line tick stuff put on the back of your neck, and a blood test done afterwards, to make sure you havent got rabies.

(this needs to be done before you think about going abroad, just nip along to your vet and tell him where you'll be going and he'll sort it out for you.) :)

you also need a pet passport with there photograph in, these can be obtained from your vet i think? as Toffee has got a passport.

once you get the all clear you can head over to france in your motorhome, me, Gazz & Toffee go via Dover to Dunkirk, on the usual 2am ferry ..its the early one anyway as its cheaper than going during the day.
(midnight maiden or whatever the ship is called..lol)

once arriving in Dunkirk, we drive down to dunkirk beach where there is a carpark right near the beach, you step out and the beach is right there infront of you, down a concrete slope :)

there's usually loads of motorhomes there, and theres a water tap near by.

(this place is past the casino, theres a monument to the men who have fallen on a small wall at the beach)

theres a bakers near by too which is nice.

Dunkirk is a nice area, its safe too, and all the other motorhomers keep an eye on each others vans. :)

(I miss going over to france, we havent been since Dec 2007 :(

on your return trip to england, there is a vet in Dunkirk who deals with Pet Passports, but i cannot remember what the address is..
you might be able to find it online somewhere?

he gives the dog a tablet and puts some front line stuff on there neck, asks how your dog is, and where you've been to and stamps its passport, he's always been good with us.. i think his name is Patrick..

hope this helps you out, :)

from Samantha.

(i will look for toffees passport and see if theres the address for the Vet over in dunkirk :)

(EDIT)

(found this post from motorhome fun, with vets addresses in Dunkirk)

the one we use is Patrick, he can usually see you straight away, all you need todo is speak to the woman at reception and she'll sort it out :)

thanks for the replies guys, but we called the caravan club yesterday to ask their advice and they told us its a no go.apparentley ,they claim, there are moves afoot to change the pet passport scheme after reports of dogs fighting and biting people.i presume this just effects so called "dangerous breeds".looks like we will be holidaying in the u.k. next year.

thanks alan

We were in Normandy 3 weeks ago. Staffys were on the banned list along with pitbulls etc.

The signs were on the entrances to the beaches as well as roads along side the beach.

Coursuelles Sur Mer was particularly restrictive

I thought it strange that Doberman's and Rottweiller's were not on the list. Thats possibly because of how I perceive these breeds

People were in the town with dogs on the list but they were muzzled

i think you will find you can take your staffie to france , we no people that do the only thing is that they have to wear a muzzel when out and about, we have 2 staffies and they are very good not a nasty bone in their body, its the people not the dogs,we do not take ours to france or spain only because one hates it rideing in the van. we see lots of staffies in spain and i might add pit bulls

As I understand it Staffys are allowed in to France as long as they are pure staffy, certain cross breeds are not allowed. Our happy mutt for example is banned as he is a boxer staffy cross but either pure breed is accepted.
