I’m a newbie
Hi there,

I just purchased my first ever motorhome and am completely overwhelmed haha.
I was trying to turn the table/dining area into a double bed and was struggling with the jigsaw of cushions and how they should be positioned 🤦‍♀️

the motorhome is a ford herald 1995 model. It has a table between 2 bench seats that can be removed. In the space where the table was there’s a rack of wooden slats to put between the 2 bench cushions. Then, the 2 benches extend slightly at the ends meaning that the cushions on top of the slats are now too narrow. Lastly, there’s another rack of wooden slats that goes between the 2 extended parts of the bench seats.
Does anyone have a clue what I’m talking about so far? If so, can you please tell me how the cushions get positioned on top of the wooden frame to make a double bed?

A picture would help. Typically, though, the bench cushions need to be unfolded to make them large enough to cover the extended area.

Your description reads quite logical. I have no experience of Herald motorhomes but you may only need the end extensions if you want to use the benches as single beds.
Try making up the double without them on the ends.
If the seats and backs don't fill the gap there should be an infill piece or two somewhere.
Alternatively, you may need to rotate the bench cushions 90 degrees.

many many years! since I was a kid
generally you turn over the seat base cushions with the raised bolster either end. Then infill the gap with the back cushions, again face down. Then you should have 2 or 3 extra pieces of upholstered foam to fill the extra space. These may be in the overcab or under the seats, or the seller didn't leave them in

I had a look on the Web but because of its age there isn't a lot of detail. You could try this group who still seem to be active.
There's a section on the history of the Herald brand too.

Thanks everyone, I don’t think the extended benches are king enough for single beds but was a logical idea. I’ve taken some photos and went back out to the van with my partner this evening and we still couldn’t fathom it out, haha

Wow I really wish I knew the answer to this one!

I had a fairly similar set up in my old autostratus. That had the pull out bits to give you a bigger double bed on the drivers side. It was made up using the 4 cushions off of the 2 bench seats either side of the table (the table top doubled as the middle support of the bed).

Then I used the back rest of my sofa on the passenger side to fill the gap left by pulling out the extending bits. My passenger side sofa was the same length as the made up double bed though so this wouldn't work on yours going by the pics.
