T-Cut on Motorhomes?

When I asked about cleaning outside of van. Some one mentioned a paste, liquid or something they all so said dont use T Cut. Cant find that post now any one known what it was???

It got very heated if I remember correctly. We had a member, who Jim accused of copying articles on polishing and claiming them to be his own, who insisted it would destroy your MH.

I still use it.

PS.......
Having said that I use it only to remove serious marks, never on a grand scale.

If you’re doing it by hand SRP is ok
Then use a good wax or sealant afterwards ?
 
The bonnet is alright to do, isn't it.....**stated after t-cutting the bonnet over the weekend... when it was hot and I should of been in a beer garden.. :rolleyes:

Having RV's which generally take a whole weekend to wash and polish, there is often a long time between those weekends. Meaning lots of oxidisation and baked on midge guts. I always used T-Cut, but someone told me to use the Maguiars Boat and RV as it is much kinder to gel coats than TCut. In use its not as good/abrasive as T-Cut, but it does a great job and doesn't damage your van.

SRP is Autoglym Super Resin Polish, they say that a "polish" is abrasive and a "wax" is protective but I have found over many years that SRP is a pretty good all rounder as it has protective synthetic resins as well as a very light cut which cleans black streaks off easy peasy, if you want something a bit more aggressive a light cut compound from the likes of Meguires or Farecla and a rotary polisher can give great results but will certainly need waxing afterwards, lots of people use Colonite 476s and say it lasts a year, I have tried it and it is certainly easy to use but not sure about a years protection but after 3 months the black streaks just wipe off.

Well you say that but it has been sold for 65 years and is still sold by one of the biggest car care firms on the planet. Is there any proof out there of how damaging this product is ?

I also see "eat bacon and die", I still eat bacon.
 
I'm not going to encourage or decry the use of T-Cut; just remember it is an abrasive and used incorrectly or on the wrong surfaces will cause damage. IMO a good gelcoat should not need anything so abrasive, just a regular wash with a normal car wash product. That's all ours gets plus a coat of car polish once or twice a year.

If you've had reason to have a panel resprayed, e.g. the bonnet on early Sevel X250's like us, it possibly needs a different cleaning agent.

Of course there are finishes that can be applied to a totally clean surface that seal them and, unless damaged, clean up with just water.

Depends what you are putting it on. The sides of my van are painted aluminium, the roof and overcab section are something GRP'e or plasticky, certainly no issue using it on the sides, bonnet etc.

They used to use a lot of asbestos in buildings as well ?

All I’ll say is if you have a fibreglass body treat it like a boat.

Google what is used to polish boats ?

SRP is a polish and Collinite is a wax. Apples and Pears! SRP will give you a shine but won’t last. Wax like Collinite will seal the shine and last much much longer. Worth the extra time initially in my book.

I am away for a couple of weeks now so will use some time to apply SRP and then some Collinite over. Something to do when I'm bored!!!
 
I think, know the the motorhome has yellowed with age. Its has a fiberglass body. So whats best to get it back to white before I/we polish it
 
The clue is in the product name, it's a mild cutting paste and abrasive. I would only ever use on a very damp, almost wet, cloth to dilute the product.

I have only ever used to "prep" a car prior to selling and would never use on my motorhome.

Instead of T cut I use Silky


They also do other items that may work too
 
The roof on ours was in a right state so I bought myself a machine polisher,used carefully!with Meguires 49 oxidation remover,SRP and Meguires 56 pure wax,came up a treat :)

That really only applies to GRP.
But the coated aluminium sheet that manufacturers use for aluminium skinned vans comes in 5 grades, obviously the more expensive the van the better grade they use. Not advisable to use T Cut on budget vans as you will soon be down to bare aluminium, been there done that on a caravan.
