Hi tried to start my sym200i scooter today, turned over and fired a couple of times but did not catch, stopped and tried again but nothing on the starter switch. Assumed that the battery was a bit low but when connected to jump leads no better. Upon investigation battery ok but start appears immobilised. Noticed that the engine fault Ecu light is on indicating an engine fault.? Anyone had this problem and how did you resolve it. TIA cheers

Check the oil level..if that is ok check the engine is at earth potential the same as the chassis, I have seen poor connection between the engine and chassis cause what you describe
It sounds like you might have two faults
The starter motor brushes and something else possibly the cdi.
. but don’t panick.. on fleabay a cdi can be had for betwixt £12 and £30 :)

Thanks for that John, have now managed to start it by crossing solenoid with a screwdriver, which didn't work when I first tried it so could be an earth problem, but still not starting off button, so more investigation to be done. Cheers

At least you know the cdi is ok.
The starter button supples 12v to the solenoid, so check that first, using the battery earth as you meter -ve point. If that is ok check again using the engine as the -ve
If that is ok too then it must be the solenoid it’s self gone t!ts up

I had major problems starting my sym 200 ? Until I realised it was on its side stand doh.
My last scooter didn’t have a side stand cut off. Felt a fool when I found out.

I have a Sym 200 that had a sidestand without a switch...
.. As I know of at least one person minus a leg from forgetting theirs was down (a work-mate interrupted him with a chat mid-sequence) I decided to remove it completely, I just use te centre stand on it now.

Mine won’t start with the side stand down. Previous model a 125 did.
How do you like the 200 ?
I love mine and use it all the time, not just with the van. Phil

The 200 is a great scooter, I have the joyride, not the HD so there's loads of space and a big flat floor.
