Setting off next month (February). My wife and I are staying in Sydney for a week and then we have a hired campervan for two weeks. Latest info is the roads are good on our planned route between Sydney and Brisbane so we have 14 days on the road before returning to Sydney. Is it necessary to pre-book camp sites? Any suggestions on places to visit and motorhome touring down under would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Have a look at our blog www.wheretwo.co.uk

We did Sydney to Cairns over 6 weeks in Feb / March 2019 in a hired van. We didn't pre-book any sites at all. Camper mate app found us all the stops we used.

We didn't motorhome but we stayed on Big 4 cabin sites which also had touring pitches. We loved Caloundra which in near Brisbane and also Toowoomba where my half siblings live, oth have Big 4s.

Try Bundeena in the National Park about 30 K's south |Sydney if you don't want to drive whilst in Sydney you can train then ferry across from Cronulla

Spent a leisurely 2 weeks dawdling up the coast highway from Brisbane to Cairnes by car a 25 years ago.
More recently a week, Sydney to Melbourne by car.
I have no reason to think Sydney to Brisbane will be much different.
You don't need to research things to do and places to go, everywhere you go, coast or further inland (fires permitting) is a new adventure.
A day on the barrier reef snorkeling and glass bottom boat is a must though.
Can't remember where we sailed from but it was only about 45 minutes out by very large and fast catamaran.

We drove Brisbane to Sydney in 2016. Try Port Macquarie. We loved our couple of nights there watching the surfers and check out the painted rocks by the waters edge

I wonder what happened to the OP? Presumably he got there as planning to go February 2020 but what happened after that, I guess we will never know!

More than likely got eaten by a Red back Salt Water Funnel Web Spider Crocodile

If only he got into trouble in the Surf on Alice Springs Beach, I could have , in my capacity as a member of the "Alice Springs Surf Life Saving Club!!! saved him

Alas-a-lack-a-day, no hope I'm afraid for him

Have done the drive Sydney to Brisbane loads of times on the Pacific highway and there are hundreds of camp sites, just pull in and book.
