Ok so I have my new conversion set up on my Brompton - just need to clip cables to finish but looking good - even year old installation clips are out of date. Also a bit disconcerting to get a card from them yesterday saying they are bringing out a smaller sized battery but such is progress.
Anyway does anyone have a favourite 12v adapter to use when in the van. Less hassle than using my inverter.
Also has anyone managed to reconfigure the battery to US speeds for countries where this is permitted.

I have seen the ads for the Swytch conversion. I was a bit concerned as it did not mention changing the brake levers for ones with switches to cut off the motor.

Still waiting for our Brompton Swytch's to be delivered, just takes ages for it to get from warehouse to delivery! Anyway from other comments above about brake switch convertors, I am a little confused in as far as I assumed that if one stops pedaling the motor would cut off anyway so why the need for a brake switch convertor?

if you stop pedaling after the power comes there is a sort of overrun of power that still drives you on for a short period after. if you touch the brakes that overrun is killed and is not acting against the brakes.

Hi Les,

I have just bought 2 e bikes and I was looking at exactly your charger as just using 12v and not an invertor makes perfect sense.
Is it working well for you and what draw in amps is it from the van battery? I assume it would draw about 4.5 Amps at 12v initially.
Your thoughts and experience would be helpful.
Thanks
Guy

Can't help with charging from 12v.But Bosch stopped making the 12v charger due to I believe overheating and other problems.

Thanks Masman,

That's what concerned me, because if this was the answer all ebike manufacturers would have 12v changers available for charging in cars away from home.

The charger has a rated output of 1.5amps, (so it's slow), when connected the BMS shows the battery is drawing 1.3amps.

The charger does get quite hot after a while, it's something I'm aware of, so I keep an eye on it, and not sure I would leave it on charge when not in the van or close by, so far no problems though.

The bottom line is that it's better than nothing, when I last took some readings, my bicycle battery was showing 55% charged, after ten minutes it went up to 56%, checking the leisure battery voltage via the control panel in bright sunshine, the voltage dropped from 14.7v down to 13v, we have a 100ah battery, and 100w solar.

Thanks for the details, I think I will get one because I was going to have to buy quite a big invertor anyway. If it doesn't work well I will go on a EHU every few days.
