For our first year with a motorhome we insured with Safeguard £360 incl European breakdown.

We had a claim for a broken windscreen last summer. Paid the £100 excess.

This year's renewal quote - £451 so I asked to lower the value to a figure to reflect a year older. New quote - £390 but it was a struggle to get any movement.

So, after trawling this forum I contacted AIB. What a joy to deal with. They were on the ball all along. I sent back an email to clarify some terms and had a phone call within two minutes to discuss.

OK, their quote was £389 so same as Safeguard in the end but what always annoys me about renewals is that every company seems to rely on our inertia in accepting their first renewal quote.

I'm not unhappy about Safeguard overall as they dealt with the windscreen claim very well, but I was impressed with AIBs communication so I thought I'd give them a go but keep Safeguard at the top of the list for next year too.

I gave up on Safeguard when their renewal came in well above last years. I went for NFU, even with having to take out separate recovery it was a lot cheaper. When I asked for a quote I was told they were not always cheapest on first year quotes because they didn’t discount year 1 and then stuff it up in subsequent years. Perhaps more interested in loyalty than inertia? Time will tell. Not all NFU agents seem interested in motorhomes and their competiveness appears to depend on postcode. The Brockenhurst branch were very helpful and I have now added my car to the policy and saved even more money.

I'm insured with Caravan Guard, and have been pleased with the renewal prices.

Initially £271 in 2016, it went up to £299 in 2017, but reduced to £278 in 2018.

Prices include cover for Wife and myself + Daughter and Partner. Includes Breakdown cover too.

Seems to be a 5 year cycle. Been with Safeguard for 5 years and renewal had gone up £90 TO £470. Would not come down. Went with ABI for £369 for same cover except miles at 6000/ year.
