I recently fitted a couple of new panels and a new dual output solar controller in addition to my current panel and controller. As someone mentioned previously the cab battery only receives 1 amp of charge ( not really a problem in itself) BUT only once the Hab battery is full.
This is going to be a problem in the winter as I have some draw on both batteries. So my question, does anyone have a link to a switch that would allow me to swap the 2 pairs of outputs of the controller over to the other batteries (if there is such a thing)? Alternatively, I suppose could just swap the cables over in the controller but that doesn't seem ideal?
I don't know if the negatives would be common? Both feeds are directly to the batteries, I ran a new twin cable directly to the Cab battery when I installed the new controller?

My Autotrail was originally wired to flick a switch for solar to charge either the hab or cab battery. Something like:
Amazon product ASIN B09L7Q2CYP
The negative is usually already common between the battery systems, simply so that alternator charging can work, so no need to have wires fully back to both batteries if one of them is connected, only one negative from one battery to the solar and that negative doesn't need switching. So now you only need one power lead from that 3 way switch from the solar, and one to each of the batteries.

But if you are going to the aggro of running those wires for the 3way switch, keep it simple and fit the battery master.

Are you sure that your duel output controller is not charging both sets of batteries at the same time and not only charging the starter battery when the Leisure battery is fully charged ?

I was going to ask what make of mppt controller was fitted as the same question occurred to me. One of my controllers is a Votronic Duo and that puts a 1amp charge to starter battery all the time it is harvesting. I guess this is what you were thinking as well 😁👍

Itsmcb You said at the start that you had fitted new panels and a duel controller in addition to the current panel and controller, if this is so , I wonder if the new (duel) controller is not allowing a charge to the starter battery ,as it seems , because it is being confused by the original solar system input ? ( I may have misunderstood this though)

It does send current to the starter battery but seems to wait until the hab battery is full first.

I have an isolater switch for my leisure batteries. I think they still get a charge but don't drain so quick so it manages better to keep the vehicle battery charged.
I'm no expert but it seems to work for me.
The isolation switch is factory fitted.

Thanks, I was just thinking about doing the same thing. It's things like reversing camera, Usb sockets and WiFi which are a drain. I could just pull a couple of fuses, hmmm 👍

I also turn all the hab electrics off on the main circuit switch.

From the manual shown the cab battery should be charged at 1A at all times except when it doesn't need to be or if insufficient solar.
If paranoid about state of battery
