We’ve had an intermittent issue with the camera when you select reverse. The camera was replaced by the dealer we bought it from but it mostly doesn’t work.

I’d rather just fix it myself, and have no issue with electrics or taking things apart.

I understand there is a magic box that uses the reverse signal to switch the camera and think this is probably a sensible place to start. Would this be in/under the dash?

Any experience or hints where this box is would be great! The van is 2012 Ducato.

Many thanks

Not sure of your system, does it have its own screen? most reversing systems that I have seen have a white wire that connects to the reverse gear switch wiring, this connects the white wire to earth, this connection may be faulty and need cleaning. Some systems use the reversing lights and again a faulty contact could be your problem. Not sure of a "magic box"

The Reverse camera adaptor ( Sargent EM5 or EM3 ? ) on my 2012 Swift Bessacarr Motorhome was under the dash top glove box. If you need to know what one looks like they are shown in the Sargent Electrical website shop (Monitors section)

Not there, it’s empty other than the passenger or bag! I also found another site mentioning behind the door control panel and it’s not there either

After market reversing cameras can take a signal from anywhere and it goes straight into the camera. In a PVC, it's pretty easy to get a wire from the reversing light itself. Although that might not be as simple in a coachbuild.

Once the monitor/in-dash screen sees an an image being sent, it'll flip to display the camera's view.

The system is the swift system, as installed from new. The box is working, but the when in reverse low level camera imhe signal doesn’t always work.

It must be a loose connection, and I thought this would be a good place to start the checks

Swift (customer services) or Sargent Electrical , which is the system fitted by Swift and who have it shown on their wiring diagrams for them may be able to help with its possible location.

Had a look while we are away and traced the cable back to the B pillar and found the box…. Looks like the original cable has been hacked, I need to understand what has been done to be able to fix it so will have a look at the rear end when home - the camera surround panel is stuck down sadly but I can feel tape on cable through the brake light aperture. If I can’t get it working quickly I will run a new cable in rather than faff trying to re-bodge a bodge.

Anyone know what the green cable is for that goes in to the outside of the din plug??
