I'm a newbie
Good morning all,,,,some lovely person has superglued my habitation door lock,( I'm sure Karma will pay them a visit),,,is it possible to get a replacement barrel as the same key opens the garage and gas locker...thank you..

Paul,

If it's a fresh application then try to apply a bit of nail varnish remover into the slot, adding a wee bit more every so often so that it massages into the mechanism.

If you can get the barrel out try soaking it in nail varnish remover

Superglue sticks mainly to organic surfaces like wood, leather, skin etc. It's not very keen on plastic, metal etc and some may still be in liquid form.

If you get get the key in you may be able to clean some out by stabbing it with the key and cleaning the key each time - may in water as the water as that tends to solidify the glue, then peel the glue film off and dry the key for the next attempt.

If you are going to remove the barrel anyway it's quite possible you'll be able to clean out the glue, like I say it's not a great bond to metal in my experience.

I also read somewhere that WD40 can remove superglue. Maybe worth checking it out ?

Acetone is the active ingredient which will dissolve the glue if you can inject into the lock.

Sorry to hear of your woes.

Could it be that someone has done this so that you can’t lock the door, go for assistance or a fix and then they’re in the van.

Just a thought at a potential theft or such like.

Make sure you leave out the rolex, laptops, iPads, iPhones and the £2000 in cash on the side.

Hope you manage to get it sorted

Hi, your not far from the truth,, l've just dismantled the lock and found out it's not superglue but an attempted break in.. They've pushed something inside the lock that's why I couldn't get my key in last night... Looks like l need a new barrel..

Most likely it's a ZADI barrel..
Pretty common and easy to get. If you look on the key, should be a number and i am pretty sure if you search around you can get a new barrel to match.. You may need a removal tool but there are tricks and ways of doing it without the tool as far as i know.
