Grew up in them! But not owned as an adult.
This is my very first post!

We're planning our very first foreign motorhome trip for 2023, which includes a lot of rugby for the 2023 world cup. I may have lots of requests for suggestions as we go through our planning, so please indulge me... ;-)

As it's our first trip, we're not stopping long in places, as we're mainly going to be in France. We're going to sail from Plymouth to Santander, as we want to just get started asap. So, I'm looking for suggestions for the following overnight locations:
Pamplona?
Barcelona?
Perpignan?

Appreciate any comments and thoughts. It may seem an odd route, but we're ultimately heading to Marseille. We're spending about 6+weeks in and around the south of France for the rugby matches we've got tickets for, but will also be having a holiday too! It's the transition trip between running our own business (we will have sold and moved house by then!) and retiring! The first of many travels, we hope!

I am sure that you will get some suggestions for those places, however, I suggest you get the paid for versions of park4night or searchforsites. You will then be able to be flexible in selecting places to stopover whilst on the journey. The world cup is sept/oct so places wont be busy on the journey but you will have to book for places where any games that you have tickets for will be held. If you are following one team - Wales? - then the apps above will help you in last minute plans as you find out where they are playing.

Thank

Thanks, I'm planning on using those apps, but there's nothing like a specific recommend! And we're already booked on a couple of campsites for the matches we've got tickets for - these are en-route stopovers!

Pamplona has newish aire by the fire station. Short walk through the park to the furnicular upto the old town.
Thanks. Noted and saved.

Apologies, another newbie question. As we don't yet have a motorhome (that's this winters task!) can I book a ferry with what we estimate will be the dimensions, and then adjust later, if needs be? I'd hate to miss out on our choice of date/time/cabin. We're not going beyond 6m, and the height definitely wont exceed 2.6m...
Thanks x

No, you input your reg when booking. I may be wrong?

As you are having short stays l would suggest the Camping Car Parks App, https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/camping-car-park/id538809938

There will be some of their stops in the areas you are looking at and the greatest benefit to you is you can prebook on the App and l would suggest you do this ASAP as accommodation in all areas will fill up.

If you are in any doubt simply book your Car/Van that you currently own and amend your booking once you have purchased a Motorhome. They have no problem with this.

But surely if you book a car that’s 3.5m long and later want to change to something 7m long x 3 m high the space allocated may be full and there would be extra adim charges if space available🤔

I think that I would book using a friend’s MH size and reg no and then later change, say you have sold and bought another. As long as booked in your name I dont think they would bother whether it is your van.
Think carefully about the 6m length as you might decide to put a bike rack on.

Thanks - they do offer the option to add a reg later...

Thanks, but we will never have anything larger than 6m, so I was just wondering if experienced travellers had done this before.

Thanks, good point, but we're going with folding bikes that will be inside the van. We'll never have anything longer than 6m. ;-)
