Any suggestions? We will be spending most of June in France travelling. What with roaming restrictions and charges nowadays I think a local sim is the way to go. Anyone know good ones avaliable in France? One I can order in advance? Need just a month no commitment contract and 30-50 GB data.

If you have an unlocked phone or tablet etc. Then the 3 sim card is not a bad option. You get 24gb for around £35 and its valid for 2 years and can be used throughout Europe - no contract

I think you can do better than that locally - In Spain we paid 20 Euros (£16) for 40 or 50 GB. Also I imagnine Three will have a 'fair use limit' in Europe. Our Smarty does and thats on the Three network. Only 12GB allowed.

You could get 3 giffgaff Sims, you get 20gb for £12 and can use all 20 roaming. Theres no contract and you cancel just by not paying for a new month. Just swap them out as each runs out.

We got a SIM card from the FREE network in March. 210gb and lasts one month, no rolling contract and you can top up. I think it cost 19.95€ plus 10€ for the SIM, which we have kept for next time. If you do a search you can find their outlets. I had to give them a French address so just used the campsite address, though I had to choose a house number off their postcode checker. Simple enough to do and it was all done in a vending machine/dispenser!

There is a previous post a couple of months ago, re getting sim cards from Spain, which is better value for money and one I will consider in the future. You have enough time to arrange it before your travel!!

Take a look at this.

Used it last month and no problem. All you need to do is buy a Lebara sim on pay as you go from a shop in France and then subscribe. I made up a French address and paid via PayPal.

Just use your passport number for the ID bit.

£22 for 200GB a month.

Since the 30 days start immediately upon payment, that would mean that you have to buy a goodybag whilst in the EU. Have you done this?

Just done that. It's £5 (15GB UK) at the moment for the first 3 months

I will use this initially and then find local sim once we are there.

We just got Asda payg sim no restrictions in lots of countries-Roam like your at home. 100gb £25 other packs available

Are you sure it is unrestricted abroad. most companies say no additional charges -same cost as at home but in the terms and conditions there are restrictions on how much data you can use aborad. i.e. Smarty unlimited is only unlimited in the UK. In EU there is a 'fair usage' policy limiting it to 12GB. (even though you pay £20 for unlimited)

I have looked at Asda and am struggling to find thier terms and conditions or anywhere where it states their policy. I did find this

Can I use my unlimited data abroad?

'You can only use your unlimited data abroad if you’re in a ‘Go Roam’ / ‘Roam Like at Home’ destination and it’s stated on your contract. This may include different data caps for Europe versus the rest of the world. '

hmm....

Anyway I still think a local sim will be cheaper.
