Struggling calling uk from abroad

Am I being daft or do some of you have issues dealing uk numbers from abroad . I tried +44 0044 with and without the leading zero and get either an English “number not recognised “ or an Italian answer message . Even the international number for the breakdown service didn’t work and had to call their uk number who transfered me using the same number !!!

All of what you tried is what I would try. Who is your provider? They just might require resetting some connections -sounds like the system thinks you’re still in the UK

Yes, EITHER +44 OR 0044 and remove the first 0 in both cases as the OP said they did

Sorry if I have misunderstood but you said you had tried “+44 0044”

The +44 represents 0044 (the code for theUK). If you are dialling more than 0044 before your required number you will have problems.

Also with the STD code omit the zero

Eg a call to our exchange 01446 from Europe is 0044 1446

I just called and it's Howden insurance, connect fine

Some phones ago my phone used to work just dialling as per UK……eg 01234 567890 . It automatically converted the stored number to whatever it needed to get to the UK.

Never do +, always 0044 now

Afraid I’ve no idea then if you’re not on Lebara and your APN settings are as they should be. Sorry. Odd that the 0800 number worked.

If you are on some PAYG networks like Giffgaff for example then you must first Credit your account before international calls as they are chargeable and separate charges and you need credit first.

It can depend on who your local service provider is, my EE on roaming would not work on calls when Denmark last year, fine everywhere else

I just call the number as i would at home, but use the international code for eg Italy if in Italy and calling a local number, Tesco mobile.

Think I’ve found the issue - I played around with the network selection and took the mobile off automatic (which was linked to windtree) and manually selected vodaphone - made phone calls no issue
