Good Morning !

Like most of us these days I take photos on my phone. They sit there and accumulate. I’m not very tech minded and often get frustrated at not knowing how to do things, especially with modern gadgets and stuff.
I know it’s probably not a good thing to have so many photos stored on my phone.
I understand there are pieces of gadgetry that can externally store photos easily by plugging it into the phone.
I think I’m talking something a bit more advanced than just a memory stick?

Any advice or experiences please?

Cloud storage like Google drive would be an option where you don't need any extra hardware.

Long time
Not sure the phones have the necessary software to use an external drive.

If it is a. Android phone it will automatically make a back up copy on Photos on Google drive but if you delete a photo on the phone Google drive will delete the copy after 30 days.

I plug by phone into my PC and copy any photos across I want to keep then save them on my server or you could copy them and save them on a USB NAS (hard drive) drive.
I would t use a USB flash drive I've seen a few of them die and all the content the lost.

Thanks..

It’s an I-phone, being a bit old fashioned I was hoping for something physical I think.
I thought I’d seen some small device, that you just connected to the phone and moved them over.

iPhone backs up to iCloud. Over Wi-Fi only or mobile data & wifi.
You can browse the iCloud content in a web browser.
iCloud in a web browser is also for notes, reminders, calendar etc.

Your iPhone can access pics that are only in iCloud.
There are various ways to optimise iPhone storage. One, IIRC, is new pics can be stored in iCloud and not the iPhone.

Everyone gets 5GB of cloud.
From that location you can make local copies on a PC.

Have you a PC?
Connected via USB, an iPhone can be seen as an external drive. Then you can copy off photos directly.

Or install the iCloud software and have u your iPhone stuff available that way.
I personally prefer the USB direct connect and web browser iCloud.com methods.

Broken most bits now
Just be careful if you're using it via a mifi abroad. The default is usually to backup photos to cloud storage so if you are photo heavy you'll use up loads of your roaming data before you even realise it - don't ask how I found out
