Going skiing early Feb at Glen Coe and looking to break my 500 mile journey from Ipswich around halfway, which according to google is around Penrith. Searchforsites brings up the Crown at Eamont Bridge. Only snag is this will be a Saturday afternoon arrival, so carpark could be busy, which in a 30' RV could be a problem. Anybody know of a better site in that area close to M6?

Tebay services have a caravan site don't know ow if it's open all year they have good mh parking in the service are but don't know if overnight allowed

We use Thanks Lea campsite in Penrith, 5 minutes from the M6, north end of the town.

Just had a look on google, the access looks to tight for me, might just be the picture but these old RV's need a lot of room, and so does the driver.:)

Torbay services caravans park isn’t open all year round but you can stop on the carpark overnighti for a fee.

From their site:
This will be our final season, as we’ve taken the decision to close our caravan park from Sunday 3 September.

Bit of a bummer but I think it was only open in the summer. I can almost certainly overnight in the services, but some want an arm and a leg for the privilege. I think someone posted that Cambridge services now want £32!

You can wild camp near J39 or on Shap Summit (off M6 at J36 follow signs for Shap) then rejoin M6 at J39.

J39:

Shap Summit Layby (very quiet road):

Thanks Tony, ideally want somewhere near to food of some sort, I will be to idle to cook myself.:)

Looks promising Cal, their website says they have lpg.:) I should be able to get there before needing a fill.

Continue north to Carlisle - you have a pm - capable of taking us 'big boys'

Last time in Tebay - didn't like us RVs in the campsite

Penrith truck stop?

From the website it appears the restaurant closes at 12 noon on a Saturday, also all overnight parking must be paid for by then, no fuel without fuel cards so really only set up for lorries with accounts.

Not to everyone's taste, but the Toby Carvery, 200 metres from jct 43 M6 lets you overnight in return for scoffing there.

There's Gretna Services at bit further up with a dedicated caravan parking area but we've parked there in both motorhome and caravan. Best checking with them though! Easy entry. Think £26 a night but includes a £10 meal voucher.

Could be a good option for you but, and it's a long time back and in a car, I think the entrance is pretty tight? Might be worthwhile checking \ asking.

Try contacting the hotel on the same site at Tebay as there is alot of parking areas just outside of the hotel grounds (not in the service area)

Yes, can't disagree but having a Moho the last place I'd need to eat is a truck stop.
It was a suggestion of where to park near Penrith. I hadn't realised you wanted food (there's a lot of pubs and restaurants around) and fuelling facilities (again, irrespective of only methods of payment, they're expensive).
Sirry, obviously a bad suggestion

Poacher on here, has been in his 40' and said no problem for my little tiddler.:)

The thing is, if you know the area or know someone who knows the area, there's good opportunities to wild camp too. Have you looked at Brit Stops for around there and that'll fill parking and eating and fuel can be had cheaper in Carlisle

Yip OK for us wee MoHos but I would avoid in your big bus (y)

We stayed at Metal Bridge in a 31ft RV, no bother.

Nice little CL at Appleby, about 15 minutes east from Penrith junction of M6 if you're OK with a little site. I've been there with a caravan so you'll be OK for access.

meant to add, spotlessly clean, just ehu & water, waste drain on each pitch, chemical toilet disposal. No shower block, no “facilities” but brilliant views of Pennines.
