Hello oh wise ones! I have been having trouble with finding a tyre pump for my 2018 Ducato Autotrail. I have tried a 12v one (it just blew the fuse) and a foot pump (which registered the pressure in the tyre but wouldn't blow any air in). The issue seems to be that the valve stem is too short to connect properly to the pump, even when I remove the rubber 'boot' for the Tyrepal.

I have heard that a stirrup type bicycle pump may do the job and wondered if you had a recommendation for a stirrup pump or any other suitable solution?

A good few Funsters recommend Ring 900 that connects directly to the battery terminals as it draws 30A(?). We've got one and it's great.

A bike pump will go well over 100 psi(y) OK it would take a while to get a motorhome tyre that high but I regularly use one for ours to around 50-60 psi, I think it's a Trek/Bontrager pump but nothing too fancy.

A good quality 12v pump should do it. Which fuse blew?

Well, it was to me, is that a different fuse rating to the dashboard 12v socket? (forgive my ignorance). As it was a back tyre the lead would not reach to the front

My tyre pump is rated at 23A so has to be connected directly to the battery. I had a problem with connecting the quick release type of connection to the metal tyre valves, but changing to a screw on type solved that.

Not sure what Autotrail you have but on my Tracker the recommended tyre pressures were 5 and 5.5bar.

So thats somewhere near 80psi.

I suspect any 12v compressor may well struggle to fill the tyre in a reasonable time.

Thanks Mike, it's a V Line BTW, I agree that 70psi is a big ask for a 12v socket type pump and I don't really want the faff of a direct connection to either the leisure or vehicle battery. So I am leaning towards a low tech manual pump and my own power. However still not sure if there will be an issue connecting it to the (short) valve on the new Fiat.

That is very interesting, I didn't know they were changeable, I will look into that, thanks.

Connecting to the vehicle battery is so easy even I managed it!
Simply lift the bonnet and the jump start connectors are just inside on the right (looking in) the ring is supplied with crocodile clips. Use these quite safely. There’s no need to open the battery box in the cab.

I fitted a pair of croc clips to a 5 quid cigar lighter from eBay and connect it d'reckly to a battery. I use a spare wandering battery in the shed but use the leisure battery still in its place for the m/h. The Halfrauds pump easily pressurises my m/h tyres to 60 lbs/sq in.

Lots of chat on here in the past regarding motorhome tyre pressures that are worth reading. The 80 PSI tyre pressure sticker found in the door strut on most Fiat based Motorhomes is a bit misleading and in most cases if you take a close look at your tyres it will show a maximum tyre pressure much lower.

Mine came from Autotrail at 70 psi, and that's where I am aiming to keep them
