Our 6 month health insurance costing 1300 has expired and due to coronavirous we are still here in spain waiting for a Brittany ferries boat from Santander to uk been cancelled 4 times. We have had 2 extensions granted by staysure but now we are on our own. I would have thought in present circumstances they would have allowed further extension as its out of our control. As anyone else experienced this.

That's quite expensive health insurance you have. You may find a significant saving with Nationwide Flexi Plus world wide multi trip cover, depending on your circumstances.

325 posts since 2008 ? I think you will do well to get your question answered ?
I don’t understand your comment.

Why should the number of posts made by the OP be relevant?

While I agree with the question posed by irnbru the original query seems legitimate to me.

Even Nationwide Flex+ health insurance have recently withdrawn claims relating to the covid virus.

We had travel insurance via HSBC but they withdrew it at 70 yrs of age. No questions about general health or fitness just a withdrawal of cover. That seems to be the norm for bank account travel insurance cover, unless anyone can recommend one.

Presumably you were charged for the extensions?
Have you asked them why they won't renew it or let you take out new policy?
(Insurance companies aren't in business for customers' benefit).

Nationwide do over 70's. You have to pay, I think an extra £65. Don't know if that is per policy or per person. Mrs Emmit hasn't attained that age yet. (And she doesn't let me forget it.)

Read the small print of the bank provided insurance very carefully - especially if you have pre-existing medical conditions or need a cruise extension.

We are 72 and with AVIVA, but I am one of their annuity holders. Worldwide policy for both of us including USA: £247! Before this lot...

I was of the view and still am that the OP may not respond to the question raised by irnbru due to the number of posts they have made over the years. I am happy to be proved wrong.
My mistake. (y) I thought you were replying to the question in the OP, not irnbru’s question.

I am with Nationwide Flexi plus. It costs £13.00 per month. There are many benefits provided free which I will not go into but will mention the health cover. (This is the sole reason I joined). An age extension costing £65.00 is required when you hit 70 and only applies to one person per account (so if your partner was also 70 that would be another £13.00 per month for his/her cover). In addition there is extra to pay for pre medical existing conditions. (I am 70 with basic pre medical conditions)The cover they provide is more or less bog standard with 24 Hr hot line. Addition fees for risky sports , paragliding etc., etc., Other than that, it's exactly what you would expect including repatriation if required.
I have tried several insurance companies and non of them could come anywhere near Nationwide. I was quoted for my wife and I for 135 day Greece trip this year a total of £455.00. I spoke directly with the travel insurance providers that Nationwide use and wholly satisfied we had all the medical cover we would need. So, here's the hook ! It's worldwide cover for 12 months. So, after we return we can, under the same policy cover take another 135 trip anywhere in the world and are covered again without paying an additional penny provided its within 12 months of the first trip departure date. So that would also cover us in Morocco. In essence, 2 x 4 month trips for £455.0

I have been insured with Staysure for the last 12 years and find that they cancelled our present policy in this climate. There are people on this site that have overstayed there time due to no boats from Brittany Ferries since end march and still being covered. We were insured to 31 march and the lockdown came on the 14th march. we have made 4 date changes since and no boats

Exactly. It's swings and roundabouts.
There's a bloke who lives near you has posted over 31000 times. :whistle2: :whistle2: :whistle2: You're just balancing it out.

I insure with Nationwide and I think that your interpretation is incorrect. If you had to buy another age extension it would cost £65, not another £13 a month. If the account is a joint account then one age extension covers both of you

I do hope your right and I agree that what it appears to say in your link. I spoke directly with health insurance providers to Nationwide and they said the age extension only covers one partner. Hopefully this is wrong and I will speak to them again when they start taking calls. Not a problem for us anyway as my other half is a few years younger than me.

Thank you for explaining that to the masses.

However, I have highlighted something in your post that is confusing.
So much so that I have just been on the phone to Nationwide.
For clarity, I am informed that, when the first person in a Joint account attains the age of 70yrs, and takes out Travel Insurance, there is an additional £65 to pay for the premium, plus any loading the Insurance apply as a result of length of stay, medical etc.

However, when the second person on a joint account attains the age of 70yrs. there is no more to pay and certainly there isn't an additional £13 per month to pay (on top of the £13 that is paid each month for the FlexPlus account)

But as said it is still possible to cross from France as others have done and as will those returning from Morocco so I guess the insurer has decided to cancel as there are options available and you have not chosen to take them . Have you asked them why ?

Baby snatcher :whistle2:

Not sure why you have brought Covid into the discussion. It was never raised before your post ???
It was indeed raised in the second line of the op, £1300 for six months :Eeek: , why can't the op go to Calais as someone else mentioned he would have been home months ago even including the trip up and wouldn't have needed any extension.
Most of this thread makes no sense.

Your quite right and I stand corrected.

That is correct Calais is too far for me as we have a long journey at other side. The point I am making is other people in same circumstances are given more than 3 cancellations due to the extenuating unprecedented circumstances.
