Bought a Knaus Sun Ti and hoping to get some use out of it :)

Being brave, and starting off with a trip to Croatia in June for 4 weeks, in particular the Istrian peninsula. Any advice on route or places to see would be very much appreciated!

Done two separate weeks at a local campsite to get to know the van. Not really trips away, just trying out stuff and getting used to using the services etc.

Croatia is probably biting off more than we can chew really, but joined here in the hope of some words of wisdom :)

Hi and welcome, first words of wisdom is you've got the right thing for traveling abroad, a motorhome, second is get campercontact on your smart phone or tablet for your drive to Croatia.

You'll find it much easier and motorhome friendly over Europe than U.K.

We went to Istria last September and its very nice BUT it is a long drive there, and seems even longer coming back! So you'd use probably half your time travelling. It really depends on what you fancy. If you want to mix travelling with relaxing and staying put for a few days at a time maybe stick to France. Its very motorhome friendly and there are so many beautiful areas to choose from. Having said that, when we first got our van we did a two week UK trip to sort ourselves out and then headed through France and along the north coast of Spain to Santiago de Compestelo. Fantastic trip but we were away for two months! Whatever you decide, enjoy it. We often land up somewhere completely different to what we initially plan and thats one of the joys of having the motorhome.

We had a house in the Midi Pyrenees for 10 years and know France really well. Sold it now and bought a camper :D. Hoping to try further flung fields!

There are other buttons: first prize, scaring children, I'm broken down, I know a lot, single looking for company, been there and done that.
Or something like that. :)

Which way did you go through Germany/Austria or France/Italy?

We went through the Black Forest and Bavaria, which were both stunning, and then down via Austria and Slovenia. We loved Germany, and will be going back. The Lake Bled area of Slovenia is also definitely worth a visit with a lovely campsite just by the lake. We came back via Italy and through the Mont Blanc tunnel into France.

You probably know, but if you order the ACSI book you get their discount card and it will repay itself within a few nights of use. And most sites accept it throughout June.

That's just what I wanted thanks. My wife's not too keen on heights, are the motorways going through the alps fine on that front?

If you are visiting Croatia, Krk island is well worth visiting. Some beautiful coastline and some good sites.

Was hoping to go there, any good campsites, especially close to the beach, and are the roads OK? Thanks.

We found the roads to be pretty good in the main. I can't remember the name of the sites we stayed at and we are away on a trip at present so can't look them up.

Will try to track them down when we get back.

Good luck.

Just remembered, right at the southern end of Kirk island is Baška. It is on a lovely bay.

We stayed at Camp Mali at the western end of the town. From there there is a promenade along the coast to the old harbour. There is also an excellent restaurant along the walk, but I can't remember the name of it.

If you do use Camp Mali part of it is right next to the beach but it is not so good. The better, and bigger part, is about 200 metres further inland but still near the beach.

Perfect. :) Did you take a ferry to krk or drive from the mainland?

The island is connected by a bridge. Quite spectacular to go across. It makes access easy.

Krk town is worth a walk around but I can't recommend any particular site as we visited on our way to

On the mainland Pula is worth seeing. There are a few old roman remains but the amphitheater is virtually intact and still hosts concerts in season. If you look on YouTube you can see some of the performances there.
