I wonder if anyone can help.
wanting to fit a Victron B2B charger to Carthago 58xl as part of going lithium, but not quite sure where to fit it as don’t know where is my split charge relay.
Here’s a picture of the battery if that helps.
Thank you.
Depends on the age, newer vans have a zero ohm link on the PCB in the distribution unit that can be cut out to disable the split charge relay..
It's been mentioned on a few threads on here if you use the search facility you should be able to find the info
The split charge relay is that black square box with the green dot on it, near the bottom of the picture. It's as near as possible to the terminals for the big wires to the leisure and starter batteries. Next to that red multiway connector.
It is triggered by the D+ signal which is probably that yellow wire. You would be looking for a way to stop that signal getting to the relay. Unfortunately you can't just disconnect it because it has other functions, such as triggering the fridge relay. I don't know exactly how this could be done, but something like the method suggested by Lenny HB is what you want.
There is an alternative. If the wiring is thick enough to carry the B2B output then you can wire the B2B into the starter battery input of the CBE box. If it's the 30A Victron B2B then that will be OK for this, but it wouldn't be suitable for a 60A B2B.
Disconnect the starter battery wire from the CBE box and connect it to the B2B starter battery input. Then wire a new bit of cable of the same thickness from the B2B output to the CBE box starter battery input. Then there is no need to disable the split charge relay.
Thanks for taking the time.
That‘s a very good idea!
I don’t know if you can help me with the mains charger as well.
The current charger is a CBE CB-522.
When switched on it charges the leisure battery at 14.3 v but the starter battery also gets c14v - don’t know how this can work happen.
it has an extra indicator connected rated at 50mA (13.8v when charger on) but not sure what it does and whether it is needed. If I disconnect it the starter battery is still charged.
I am planning replacement with a Victron IP22 to allow lithium charging which I have already bought and does not have an indicator connector. Do I need to set up a another indicator to produce 14v when charger on?
Thanks again
