Hi going to get spare wheel soon for our trip to Spain, just got a price from the wheel shop with a Michelin CP for 229.95 or one with a budget one called Hi Fly for 134 would I be OK with the budget one for Spain ,not driving through France ferry both ways.

Spain is same France tyres on the same axle have to be the same type & make.
If buying an aftermarket wheel check the load rating a lot are not as high as the OEM rim.

I have just bought a new (as in never used) tyre and rim for my Motorhome.
This may sound weird but, there are 2 different firms with the same name.
I bought an original Ford rim with a Conti 235/65 R 16 delivered for £140, which is about the same price as buying the tyre alone.
The other place with the same name wanted approximately £100 more.

No mate. Rochester Kent. Red and blue logo.
Have an eBay shop.
Found them really good to deal with.
Ordered last thing on Friday, arrived Tuesday morning.
They have been recommended on here previously.
I believe most of their stock is “Original Equipment“ removed at the coachbuilding stage.

Do you need some extra 235 tyres have a new conti tyre and a half worn one? Gone to 245 75 16.

Hi folks , was wondering if I got a spare that wasn't the same brand on the same axle how would anyone know , as the difference between brands is quite a bit , 229 for Michelin against 140 budget .

Not ment to have different tyres across axle. Illegal in parts of Europe. Not sure about spare. Doubt it matters.

James that's what I thought, but because you have put the spare on does that make you illegal or OK until you get the chance to put the right one on ,it's very confusing don't know what difference it makes as long as it the same size .

Have you considered a rim from a breaker and a part worn tyre matching the ones you have already? Probably £50-60 all in.

Apologies for a newbie question - do you have to gave a spare? We’ve just purchased a moho without a spare “ to save weight”. We have a gel squirter kit instead.

If you have a flat on a minor road then the gel will do to get you home or to the nearest tyre shop.
(Although you will never use that tyre again)

If you have a proper flat on a motorway late on a rainy night just before Xmas, no spare means a very expensive (the price may well have a comma) extraction from the hard shoulder, several days in a service station, followed by recovery to home, or to the nearest tyre place.

I bought a spare wheel and tyre and carry it in the garage. It makes a good place to store items

That’s why we have breakdown insurance, so they will come and rescue you. Why would it cost thousands?

There have been several threads about people finding out the hard way the cover they have from their insurer is not enough, as many recovery vehicles limit recovery to 3.5t and/or 6.5m (Basically a standard van size)

I believe in Spain there was an issue where only sanctioned lorry recovery vehicles could be used, they charged a four figure sum for removal from the hard shoulder and left it to the van owners to try to reclaim the amount off their insurance.

Thanks good to know Brains. I guess the main lesson is to read the small print; the second lesson is that not everyone in the conversation has the same sized van! We’re under 3.5t and 6m
