Spanish Health System

We're currently paying for private health care, but today we found out that we can pay 60 Euros a month each to join the Spanish health system.
All good but my inbuilt caution is wondering if there's a qualifying period ? I can't see them allowing you to join, and the day after you tell them you have a serious illness.

Anybody with experience or knowledge ?

The trouble is the older you get the more you pay, I started drawing my state pension last December, so entitled to the S1 and a EHIC card so the UK pay and Janie piggybacks on that, she just has to keep my alive. Bob.

We are both Old uns, so qualify for the S1 Scheme, I know its hard to believe....however there are a few of our ex-pat neighbours who contribute into the Spanish system and get the same service as we do...some have ongoing health issues.....Why not ask at your local health centre...or INSS office where you are.

You can use your S1 in the UK for health cover.

Duffie If you are not resident in the U.K. my understanding is you cannot legally access the U.K. NHS, except for emergencies when visiting.

I also believe if you’ve left & returned as resident you have to wait 3 months before you get full access again, but I sometimes doubt that delay. Once your resident again, your resident, & surely have access to all.

I know many Ex Pats do return for healthcare but the ones I knew who did this was pre Brexit and were not registered residents in Spain, even though they lived there full time, so illegal all ways around
