South of France - Really Quiet

Inflation hit 10% so if a 1/2 litre of beer was €6.00 by rights that 1/2 litre of beer should now be €6.60. Not €10.80
A 2kg sack of potato’s was €1,50 now it’s €3.50, not €1.65.. as in most food cost increases, they are taking liberties.
Why do we put up with it, if we all stuck together and said.. we won’t pay €8.00 for a 500g tub of Lurpak and everyone stopped buying it for 6 months, it would be back to €1.50 and stay there. Same with Beer, if we said, ok from now on we don’t buy any Carlsberg Beer until it’s back to pre covid costs and stuck to it for 6 months, the costs would come down, the same with lots of food brands.
If the Supermarket shelves were full of un-bought items, the Supermarket would force the manufacturers to reduce the costs.
In these days of social media surely someone can come up with a website that we can all get on and destroy a company who takes us for granted by not buying their goods.

They say “They’ll pay they have no choice”.. well it’s about time we took action.
Do you agree?

Currently at Portiragnes Plage, quieter now than two weeks ago. Food & drink quite expensive compared even to Ireland, still the sun is shining! Hard to beat Spain & Portugal for value for € though! 🇫🇷😁🇮🇪

We came back from Spain in May,where I paid between €1.50 to €3.50 for a pint, to Les Issambres in France, and a pint was €8 .
Diesel in Spain was between €1.22 to €1.48. In France it was never below €1.74.
Why has France become way dearer than the UK ?
Cos they're even greedily...

We've commented that everywhere we've been In France during the past three weeks has been extremely quiet with a lack of none French tourists as well as few native Camping Cars.

If they didn't sell in any volume they would go out of business, So for those left less competition and higher prices.

Agreed...we are getting severely ripped off...someone, somewhere is making a LOT of money at our expense...GREED..

We’re at Fontvieille in the south of France, just south of Avignon and not far from the Mediterranean coast.

I’m really surprised that it’s as quiet as it is this weekend. I understand the French schools are back on Monday but I expected this weekend to be their final push of the holidays and the weekend to be really busy.

This aire, which is usually quite busy, has 6 units on, whereas it will take probably 50.

Where is everyone?

We’re in Montsereau and have been amazed at the price of fuel around here. Haven’t seen anywhere less the €1.89. Days of cheaper than UL long gone

I used to buy 3L Roche Mazet Red wine for 9 euros. Really good. £8 / £9 per bottle taste (to me anyway).
I see you can get 3L of Rose for 11 Euros. Still pretty good. No idea wha it tastes like of course.

Diesel prices are high anyway because of this net zero shambles and Les Francais seem to milking it a bit further still.
In about 2015 (I think) we used to get diesel in N. France at 1.05 euro. It's crazy now.

Moved about 25 miles further south, down to the Mediterranean coast at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. It’s much busier here with the aire probably 80% full. Plenty of activity on the beach too with day visitors in cars. Perhaps not surprising given that it’s about 30 degrees and full sun.

That's great thanks.
I am aware it's a cable car run upto the 007 cafe on the Shilthorn...........from Murren.
That Camping Jungfrau i have had my eye on for awhile, it gets good reviews.
When we leave Bled we will have a good idea when we will be in that area so may pre book a few days earlier.
Don't do burgers but i'm thinking i'll have to have one of those, if only for the picture
We've stayed at Camping Jungfrau, it's an excellent site but can get busy I fear. If you are sure of your dates you might like to try booking. There is also another good site a bit further up the valley but you can't walk to the train station from it like you can from Jungfrau. The trains are worth considering, being Swiss they will run on time and you can enjoy the views which you can't when driving. :)

If your route into Switzerland can involve the Sustenpass I don't think you will be disappointed. It is spectacular.

that is completely untrue. Some accidents of course but by no means the majority.
Yes maybe not a majority but still 32% in all accidents
https://etsc.eu/issues/drink-driving/drink-driving-in-france/

drink ,drugs & medicines in 25% of all motorway accidents.
" excessive speed" is way down the list anywhere.

Yes but you are wasting your time . the population in the Uk is too apathetic. 20 years ago my wife tried to organise new homeowners about all the faults they were having with their houses. Waste of time .
So for those left less competition and higher prices.
you then nove on to them & put them out of business until A) the prices drop or B) you bankrupt them also

I have done a detailed itin so we could confirm now to make sure we are there on the given date.
We have been to Switzerland and adjoining countrys many times. This will be the first time we have taken a car with us behind the MH, we like the convenience. Also driven lot's of passes' including Stelvio a few times but alway's looking for new ones.
This time on the way to Bled we will be doing the Grosslockner (parking up and taking the car up and over and back). I did it awhile ago but the visability was terrible.
Thanks for the tips on sites near Jungfrau.

My wife informs me the rose is excellent, HIC.

Sadly for the tourist trade the south has been very quiet this year. Great for us residents in the northern hills behind Narbonne, Thé Hautes Corbières is a beautiful area, never far from lake or river swimming. Lived here for nearly 30 years and this year has been the quietest ever. So so quiet since the 15 August the traditional mad return from holidays for the French, and all the publicity for La Rentrée - the return to school.
We are about to have another heatwave and Indian summer so still time to head down here. Not dared to compare diesel prices but we grow our own veg and shop from local farmers cooperatives/markets as much as possible, and this has remained reasonable. We heard from visitors that entry fees to various attractions down here had increased dramatically, and any eateries nearby were more expensive.
I hope this does not kill tourism completely in this area.

When you say the south of France, the assumption seems to be that you are referring to the south east, ie Provence etc, and that the south west does not count. Normally I have found it to be very busy, tacky and expensive.

I agree , we have been here since beginning of July and even the very touristic places haven’t been too busy . The Dordogne sites all have space for drive ins … very weird .

Agreed. One improvement are the large white/black "intelligent" cameras which recognise that motorhomes are not trucks and don't flash you.
Doesn't matter if they 'flash' you or not. Since B R E X I T the EU can't trace your address to send the fine because we no longer have an 'agreement' :) Had to be one benefit.

But if you want to visit again and your number is of interest, i.e. it keeps appearing on a speed camera database, life could become difficult at the border.

How could they prove that you were the owner/registered keeper when the aledged offence was committed? The vehicle could have changed ownership or even could have been on hire.

We are at Elne about as far South as you can get in France and this aire is quite busy compared to what we normally find
Traffic on the roads heading north was quite heavy yesterday. We are heading into Spain today so hopefully the traffic is going the other way.
Came the non motorway route over the mountains. Rain most of the way and fog with very limited visibility on the bendiest parts. Not much fun. Now moved on to Spain near Castellon. Heavy overcast and wind. Sunny Spain Hah.
Tomorrow moving further south hoping to find sun and less ragweed pollen.

I think you may be wrong there, Mrs May signed the agreement for European law enforcement to access the DVLA data base to get the address of a vehicle owner. In fact it goes further, the UK police have the ability to report to European police an attempted break in to a UK residents foreign property. Recently I used this service, I called 112 and received a 999 answer, they called Quesada Police at Rojales and reported a couple of burglars in my yard who damaged my cameras, I have also just checked www.gov.uk and the site says dvla sharing it’s still in force, which is what I thought was the case. Sorry to disagree with you, I would have loved it to have ended, then I would stop being fined €45.00 everytime I hit 100mph in a 90kph zone!!..

I was flashed once in June and once on this current trip. No ticket received. However, I understand that when the authorities see that I'm under 3.5 ton they don't issue a penalty. It's the older cameras that cannot differentiate under 3.5 tons and over.

Luxembourg on Thursday was €1.64. Prices on our travels so far have varied from €1.79 to €1.99. Not been on any pea

We are 3850, got flashed several times, never got a ticket, they assume i am 3.5 so don't bother. It flashes cause it thinks i'm a truck.

I thought the same on the DVLA sharing data, however last year I was flashed at over 100kph in a 80kph zone on Calais and no ticket arrived!! So what is the position??

They got me on the A 16 because the Concorde triggered the camera.Fine came through ,so DVLA must still be assisting !!
