We are visiting South lakes safari park soon as my son will be doing the Zoo Keeper Experience for the day.

Rather than set off early doors i am looking for a stop over close by, ideally between Kendal and Barrow in Furness.

I know there is a stopover in Settle which we will pass en route however was wondering if anything closer as we need to be there at 8.30am

Not going till April or June

Anyone got any recommendations?

Not sure if you want a campsite, but we like the Camping and Caravanning Club site at Kendal. We've used it a few times as a stopover, particularly on the way up to Scotland from the south-west.

Cricket Club in Kendal. Pub over the road.

Will not arrive before 8pm(don't get home till 6pm so prob not setting off till 7pm)
CCC sites don't cater for late arrivals had too many arguments over this in past.
Site is close to 2.5hrs drive away from me

Are the services at Tebay any good?

Kendal Cricket club as recommended by @Boringfrog, has an honesty box so looks like you can arrive late.

There’s a site at Bardsea Leisure in Ulverston- mainly residential, but some touring pitches. Not sure if they’d cope with you arriving that late, though.

If it is a site your looking for there's the C&MC site at Meathop Fell.
5 minutes off the A590 (junction 36 off M6).
There's a late arrivals area with hook-up.
Woodlands Hotel is 5-10 minutes walk away.
Probably around half and hour to the zoo (traffic dependent).

My experience (unless things have changed) is that the road west of Ulverston can get very clogged at peak times. There may be a case for going further towards the zoo - if you’re a C&MC member there are a few CLs in the area, one of which (www.low-hall.co.uk) has a small commercial site as well, so open to non-members.

At that time of day I would take the coast road out of Ulverstone and park up on one of the coast side large pull off areas, there may be a little road noise, but there were no parking restrictions last time I stopped there

Are you looking for a pub stopover or a wilding spot? My drive may be available or I have a couple of secret spots that might suit depending on what you want.

Thanks for replies guys
Was not able to book experience when we wanted so had to book a different day.
Looking like may just be a day trip in car for this trip. Maybe able to use suggestions in future thou
