Hi me again sorry.
my last motorhome had two 120w solar panels on the roof and it was more then enough fully charged in half a day but this time we are getting a bigger inverter that will probably be off most of the time. I’m looking at two 160w panels 320w total but their quite big, I’ve found a couple of 130w 260w total much smaller with integrated mounts so no need the mounts the question is which to go for? This brings us on to the second question I’m sure you’ve read about the cock with the new van well in this one we have a 800w microwave which again probably won’t be used but I’m getting a big inverter just in case for those 3 minute cans of beans, so does anyone use a microwave off an inverter and if so do you know the maximum wattage draw I’m guessing around 2000w at start up?

Thanks in advance

I have 3x 100W in series to 2x120AH lithiums. 1500W inverter powers a 600W microwave with a peak draw of 1Kw. Does suck the old juice but fortunately microwaves are only on for a few minutes.

Bear in mind for every 1000 Watts you use out of your inverter you need 400ah of lead acid batteries if you want your batteries to last.

Thanks, the way I look at the batteries is it’s only going to be very short blasts and if I get a couple of years which is the warranty out of them I’ll be happy and go lithium but I understand where your coming from. I would have gone lithium with the order but in Niesmanns world they are part of a package which also includes an inverter and they charge you a whopping £6000o_Oo_O

You might be able to have your microwave adjusted to a lower wattage? Just takes a bit longer to cook but reduces that initial power surge and power draw at any one time. There's a company not too far from the M20 near Ashford that might be able to do it.

Is that the one just off the roundabout?

I did a post about it a few weeks ago giving full details, I can prob try to find it tonight or tomorrow if you can't ..?

I have 3 x 100w panels, a 1700w pure sine wave inverter and 4 x 6v 225A Trojan battery’s that actually give me a usable 450A of power, as they are designed to run completely flat without any damage unlike normal lead acid batteries. I use my 1000w kettle, and 1000w toaster, daily with kettle used approx 3/4 times a day, with occasional use of my microwave 800w, and Remoska at 400w, with other small electrical appliances too. Never run out of power yet even in the uk but obviously I monitor closely what I use on a daily basis, ie if I use the Remoska then I won’t use it next day and so on.
