Some vans have solar regulators built into the main PSU / POWER SUPPLY.
Example my Autotrail has the Sargent EC500 unit, all it needs is a connector plugged in from the solar panel. The PSU then does the regulation to the batteries and has smart facility to do both engine and leisure batteries.
Thanks Geo, I've had the solar panel fitted and for some reason my 5amp fuse for the control panel in the PDU has blown 5 times since Feb the first being the day after the panel was fitted. Having been in touch with the company who went straight on the defensive and did not even offer to take a second look for me although they are near on 2.5 hours away. So I wanted to know if they are connected some how before I take further action.
Thanks
Hi Dave
Your profile says you have a Bailey van?
I'm familiar with solar setups but not what kit is in a Bailey, so what "PDU" and control panel do you have? Do you have a separate (mppt or pwm) solar controller?
This info would help give a better answer I think
Cheers
Steve
Fit a separate Solar Controller you can get them with twin battery output. Once it has charged the habitation battery it will keep the engine battery charged up. Some of the Sargant Control Panels need to be switched on to work.
