Our Reich kitchen tap on a Hymer has not switched on the pump for some time. We turn on the bathroom tap to start pump and use the kitchen tap as usuall.
Today we had smoke coming from the hot/cold selecter on the kitchen tap . From underneath no signs. Comes from the tap only. These poor design taps allow water to trickle in to the selecter housing. This causes rusting on tiny screws and failure of micro switches but smoke is a new one? Happened to others?

Sounds like the insulation on wires to the microswitch has worn through with the tap movement and they are arcing & the PVC insulation is burning.

That's why Lenny HB cunningly mitigates high current draw through his microswitch taps by inserting a relay device - nicht wahr !!!

Is the smoke in the water Deep Purple ?
Does it only happen when you turn it up to 11 ?
If so, then you simply have too much heavy metal.

I'd recommend refitting the Handels for water music,
Ensure you don't fit the Handels for royal fireworks.

Removed the tap and replaced with spare. Still to get the faulty tap apart to see the problem. Rusty screw is the hold up. Managed to remove screw from a different tap. You can see the difference from new. I fully understand the micro switch replacement option now after dismanteling another tap. Still need to remove tap on this Vector type to access the switch.

The screw only screws into nylon so even if it's rusty it's easy to unscrew.
I replaced the screws in my taps with stainless steel screws.

Be warned the microswitch has normally closed contacts, the tap in the off position holds the switch contacts open. Very confusing until you realise.

Have never had smoke from my tap but agree it’s a shite design. Every now and then our tap stops and when I take it apart it’s the thin wire that runs from the micro switch which just rubs with use of the tap. I normally rejoin the wire and then at some point replace micro switch for it to happen again.

Micro switch fault found. After the smoking tap incident and struggling to remove the rusty screw I can see the part was melting. Here also are the componant parts to this Reich tap. Micro switch replacing from now on rather than a whole tap.

Be very careful routing the wires through the tap, had to do mine 3 times before it stayed working for more than a couple of weeks, been OK for over a year now.
