developed a smelly fridge whilst on gas. First time happened in Spain cleared the exhaust out still smelly now fitted a new jet and cleaned exhaust again. Still smelly only outside so not coming into van. The old jet ports did look blocked and sounds like a little jet engine now. Anyone got any other ideas

Whats the smell?
If its amonia then it the coolant escaping
No Robert not Amon is smell and only does it on gas, just smells sort of fumy thought it was cheap Spanish gas but only refilled the bottle last week at my local garage. Going to leave it on for a few hours tomorrow as only just fitted new today. thanks for response.

Had this on my old van.
The drain off water ran Into a holding tray before evaporating but left a "gunge" .. gave a horrible Smell often when near the external vents. Cleared out with some kitchen towel and all was fine. Worth checking.

quite a common issue with dirty gas. can sometimes but not always indicate an imminent regulator failure caused by greasy deposits in dirty lpg

Something died in the heat exchanger?

In my mis-spent youth a common trick played on our mates going on honeymoon was to tie a dead fish to the exhaust manifold. One rotten swine put one down the windscreen heater vents.....!

Think ime going to get a spare reg as off to Spain in a fortnight. Cheers

Quite possibly need the airways in the burner cleaning out, if they get a bit blocked it burns rich and smells “sooty”

That’s what I just replaced with a new one today and yes the airways were blocked. As I say it sounds so much different like a little jet engine. Going to try and leave it on all day tomorrow maybe just needs to burn all the crap out. Cheers

I may have missed but have you checked thee little drain hole at the back of the fridge and the tube on the outside inside the vent and if there's any ice or blockage. It's a common problem in domestic fridges.

Sorry mate should of said done all that pre fitting a new jet and also cleaned the plastic tray. Only does it on gas

Happened on mine...several new jets, cleaning flue, etc..then I noticed slight blackening under the gas kettle...changed the gas regulator and all was working as it should. Simple fix but took about a year to find the problem/solution.

What really made me think it was the regulator? In Spain last winter the 'sooty fumes' were coming into the van through the poorly sealed fridge gaps...I cleaned the jet/flue/burner again, but problem still there...I got a Spanish propane bottle from a guy leaving Majal, bought a new bottle top regulator and then piped the gas in through the external bbq point...It cured the smelly fumes immediatly.

Hope this helps
