Hi all,

Heading back home after great trip touring Belgium, France, Switzerland and Italy. Any recommendations for a stop over in Yorkshire on Friday night? Breaking up the drive from Dover back to darkest Ayrshire. Thinking of somewhere in the Dales and nice and quiet with a village pub nearby. All suggestions appreciated. Cheers, Ronnie

Which route are you taking, assuming you don't want to wander too far off route of course?

CS at Heber Farm Buckden is quiet with pub short walk away.

Many thanks for suggestions, will be heading up the A1 then across the A66.

Try Harrogate Showground camp site.about 3 miles from A1. Two pubs within walking distance. Sainsbury's nearby.

Here, it’s perfect and a no brainer. Free parkup, free EHU if you get there and ones available, if not then it’s leisure batteries, great pub and grub, just pop in and eat and have a drink and say hello.

Spaces for at least 10 large vans. Hopefully the VW Dubs don’t take the large pitches or whoosh bangs, but highly recommended for a free stop over.

I've been racking my brains for something that would fit your requirements as I live a few miles from the A66 between Barnard Castle and Richmond. There are two car parks in Richmond I can think of. One I know vans overnight in but its a fair old hike into town and a steep one back. There is another car park down near the river and there are motorhomes always parked up in there but I think they are residents vans. Park 4 night reckons you cant sleep there but you could wing it for a night.

Old race horse car park. You would be ok in there https://maps.app.goo.gl/CZ3hKFQbnkPkMSKn6

Car park near the river.

There is always Morrisons car park in Barnard Castle but its probably a bit noisy, gets busy and you will need two tickets.

Whatever you do don't park within half a mile of the A66. Its noisy as hell 24/7.

If you fancy a bit of an adventure what about Tan Hill? Britains highest pub. Not sure what your van size is but you would be best approaching it from the Brough end in a motorhome

Black a mor inn a mile outside of ripon do pub stop overs

Bedale Camping and Caravanning Park is a nice site, not far off the A1 (South of Scotch Corner). You can then cut across on the A66 and join the M6 at Penrith.

Cowflatt Farm West Haddlesey. Very peaceful. Pub/ Indian restaurant across the road or Wheatsheaf Inn at Burn both highly recommended.
Easy loop off A1 onto M62 heading east, up A19. Back via A19/A63 to A1.

This is what I love about this forum- all of the above replies. Many thanks for your time and suggestions. Just arrived off the ferry at Dover so sitting with a beer planning tomorrow nights stop in Yorkshire. Will let you know where we end up.

The Fat lamb, free if u have meal, fantastic setting just outside Kirby Stephen, pitches but no facilities

Hi Pinarello, a few places come to mind.
The Old Tree decent food, short walk into Ripon, down the riverside. https://oldoaktreethirsk.co.uk/

The CB Inn between Reeth and Tan Hill does really good food,

Hawes is slightly out of your way, but the cattle market car park, is a 5 minute walk into Hawes

Got a space at the Black Horse Inn - superb. Friendly staff, great food and atmosphere. Thanks for all the suggestions.

St Marygate Street car park in Ripon. Down at the bottom part it doesn't slope too much. Interesting Victorian Gaol museum across the road. Sainsburys at the top of the car park.
