I bought a small portable second alarm which can easily be “hidden in plain sight”. As well as my amazing Growler from eddievanbitz . Has anybody found a sim that doesn‘t cost too much. I am using a 1p sim at the moment but it costs £10 every 120 days and I have used negligible data. In the growler I am using a Tesco payg and have told them it is in an alarm so they don’t bother me every 3 months, but that is text only not data. Ok £30 a year won’t break the bank but there must be someone that does sims just for alarms. I found one in Switzerland but the reports said that their sign-up questions were quite intrusive but it was very cheap.
any suggestions?

Be careful about SIM cards. Some trackers/alarms only use the older 2G style SIM cards. They don't support the 3G style SIMs.

I have a couple of Giffgaff non-contract SIMs in trackers - as above, stick a tenner on them and they last forever. Also trying a Giffgaff rolling contract SIM for data in a mobile router at the moment to see how it works out. Great thing is that they can all be added to a single online Giffgaff account for monitoring and top-up when (if!) required.

These are made for "Things" rather than phones. Not tried them but I was reading up on them a few months ago ready for when our O2 card gets discontinued..

That was the one I found, but reading reviews people were complaining about them being intrusive. Also apparently they are only 2G so I don’t know how compatable with my devices they may be. It seems that one payment will cover all sims so I could have one in the Growler as well. But possibly too many eggs in one basket. I have a week to decide whether I want to continue with 1p. I do have an old GifGaf sim so may try that. Ihaven’t used a tenner in three years with the Growler.

I’m curious as to why you would require a second alarm with a Growler installed?🤔

And 3 Network doesn't support 2G. None of them will in about 10 years time. Some of them are now making trackers that use a 4G sim.

Read Jim post:

A Motorhome tracker you'd be stupid not to fit.

I can also pop it into the scooter when out and about.

I used to use GiffGaff, when they were a decent PAYG option. But they kept on increasing their prices - now 10p per text / and a whopping 25 per minute call.

So I switched tp 1p mobile, 1p per text / 1p per minute. But then they changed their pricing to a minimum of £2.50 per month and, like you, I had negligible usage. So they were basically stealing my money!

At the moment I'm using an Asda SIM - 4p / 4p, and the balance doesn't expire.
