Good afternoon
On my van I have the Shurflo water pump. It is a constant source of annoyance , it runs on interminably not loud just enough to annoy and the it is necessary to switch of at the main
Then of course any need of water back to the main switch . Sometimes the pump is so loud it seems as though will come through the wood work
Ideas please , would a Fiamma expansion gadget help
Best wishes and stay safe
Chris

Hi Chris, The reason for intermittent running of the pump would be due to a very slight loss of pressure so maybe needs addressing first. We too have the Shurflo pump mounted beneath one single bed (AT Savannah) and yes,, it is very noisy especially during the night when one of us uses the facilities. I fitted a Fiamma A20 expansion tank and have been surprised at the difference it has made. Whilst it is only a small reservoir, and when a tap it opened the pump cuts in very quickly, the difference in noise is amazing. I would certainly recommend fitting one. (y) (y)

You could try and soundproof the pump some way, I’ve boxed mine in with some insulation and it made a difference. I also took out the 30psi one and replaced it with a 20psi, this also made it quieter.

If its on flexible mounts or feet don't have them over tight... and if its plumbed directly to the semi rigid plastic pipes try a couple of short lengths of a softer flexible hose on the pump ..that can help reduce the noise...

Same here. Very well worth fitting and an easy job

Sounds interesting. But I don't understand why adding an expansion tank would make the pump quieter? Any additional comments on that appreciated.

From a previous post
Since the hab service the pump has been making a racket, and all my anti vibration insulation moved, the pump had also been screwed down
1st tranche
Losen pump on anti vibration mount
Add insulation on all obvious vibration sites
Remove shower cover and add insulation to all pipe work i could get to.
Try to remove possible air locks
No better
Today
2nd tranche
1 switch off 12v
2 open shower, sink, kitchen taps (midway on mixers)
3 open drain valves 20l, main, boiler
4 wait
5 close drain valves
6 fill tank with water
7 close taps
8 switch on 12v
9 switch on pump
10 shower open tap to cold .when good flow no spulttering r wait 30s close tap
11 sink repeat 10
12 kitchen repeat 10
13 back to shower repeat 10 with hot tap
14 repeat 10 with other taps set to hot
15 be amazed by how quiet it is.

Unfortuanately a few refills and its noisey again so
Hand on pipes to suss ones with vibration and tie down and/or insulate
this time i also adjusted screw on front of pump.
rerouted the od pipe to reduce stress on bends
removed pump (to adjust) and only added 2 restraining nuts.
Quiet again, for how long ? or maybe get an accumulator?

As post #2 - first check if you have a leak in the system somewhere.

One (easy to check) possible culprit is the clear plastic pipe from the truma boiler inlet, terminating under the floor of the van. If water is found to be dripping from this pipe, under the van, then it's a sure sign the non-return valve contained within the inlet to the Truma boiler is faulty.

I had to replace mine, looks like this :

Not really sure but the only thing I could think of it that the pump vibrates and passes that vibration to all the pipework around the van. Fitting an accumulator means the vibration is dampened by it.

its on the outlet of the tank, top connection,Its there to allow air in to drain the heater usually via the pressure relief valve on the inlet

Yes, I agree, the valve is contained within the OUTLET connection from the hot water boiler. And, the function of this valve is to allow air into the boiler under drain-down conditions.

First thing to check is for a leak, second thing to check is for a leak and the third thing is to use cotton reel
Rubber mounts under the body to insulate it from the MH body, also you can use pipe insulation on the pipes close to the pump,

I fitted ours on a small board with spongey lagging under it, all the screws are loose too 👍

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions , I will try to work through each until one works. As I grapple with the peculiarities of this van no doubt I will post more questions
Happy travelling and stay safe.
